Cleveland CG12 Black Pearl Wedge Golf Club
Created: 04/05/10
The Cleveland CG12 has a very soft feel & is easy to use for touch distances in the 40-75 yard range. The dark non-glare finish is easy on the eyes. They are have a reasonable amount of spin without producing too much spin. I've used Cleveland wedges forever & these seem to be the best yet. I've owned the 588 models & the 900 series. The 54* & 58* are the ones I purchased. These lofts are very good for my game, 9.6 handicap. I do highly recommend these clubs. The only reason that I did not rate them excellent is that it is just too soon to tell at this point, 45 days into them.

Great wedge at a great price!

You want one of the best wedges out there? At a great price? Cleveland's CG 12 has the same "Zip Grooves" as it's newer (and pricier) cousins the CG 15 and CG 16, the only difference being the laser-ed in micro grooves added to the later models. For most of us, it will make little difference, you will still be getting a much sought after wedge at a lower price than the CG 15 or CG 16.
Cleveland has been the leader in wedges for many years and they are not being caught anytime soon. FYI, these wedges will become illegal (as will many others) in 2024 for any tournament play, it is already illegal on the professional tours. The PGA actually was targeting these deep, square grooves in making their rules change, but they are 'grandfathered' in for a number of years for us amateurs.
Having said that, remember that they are no longer being made and getting your hands on a set of these beauties should be at the top of any serious golfer's list of things to do. Get one, a couple, or if you are like me three!

The pro wedge for amatuers
Created: 07/05/10
The Cleveland CG12 is the only wedge that I have used that makes the ball stop consistently. In fact, eventhough I have a single digit handicap, the CG12 is the only wedge that I can back up. It was so good for the pros that the USGA and the PGA Tour outlawed it in their tournaments this year. It is still legal for amatuers until 2024, and you will probably wear it out before then anyway. You can usually get one of these new on Ebay for about half of the retail price. I just won three new CG12's on auction and will keep them in storage for when the grooves eventually wear out on the other three used ones that I bought last month. You will not regret buying and using this club - not only because Cleveland is the number one wedge on tour - because it will become your favorite club after the first time that you use it in a tight spot, a delicate chip, or just a plain old full wedge shot.

Cleveland Wedge

I decided to buy the Cleveland wedge because I needed a 56 degree wedge that produced lots of spin. I have been very happy with the purchase. It's zip grooves grip the ball and provide the backspin I need to stop the ball on the green. It provides excellent spin whether using full swings or chipping from off the green. I mainly use the club for chipping and not approach shots, it works very well in slowing the ball down and checking on the green.

Cleveland has always made great wedges and this one is definitely my favorite to date. Looks good at address and the non glare black pearl finish helps alot with sun reflection. Feels balanced and very solid at contact.
