Close Combat: First to Fight (PC Games, 2005)

I bought the game for my son, a former Marine who deployed to Iraq when we first went in to oust Saddam Hussein. He has since left the Corps but he remains a Marine and he had heard good reviews on the game.

His computer wasn't configured properly when he first installed the game and it ended up crashing. All of his RAM was tied up with other applications so when the game, which is a heavy RAM-user, was installed, it overwhelmed the system. Now that the computer is properly set up, he plays it without any problems.

He says the graphics and techniques used are just like he was taught. I guess it's his way of reliing the experience without having to worry about taking a real bullet. I guess that is a guy thing. I really can't give a proper review since I'm neither a gamer nor a Marine.

Although the graphics are not the greatest and the A.I. is a little slow. The single player game is great to play and is, although frustrating at times, FUN. It is not too over the top and arcadeish like the newer Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Ghost Recon 2 games. You have A.I. Teammates who have brains and most of the time help. The squad command system for this game works great as well.
What I like most about this game is that you are not expected to go out and annihilate the bad guys by yourself or lone wolf, you have a team. Commanding that team to meet mission goals is the whole point of this game.

I liked many realistic features. The tactics are the same ones we use in the Marines. The only problem is that there is only one fireteam, whereas the heart of the operations in the Corps takes place in the squad level, and the marines are most effective when employed as a platoon.

Great game, good graphics, fun to play! Our son loves these close combat type games and really enjoyed this one.

Great game!Everything is going great then BAM...a couple of bad guys pop out of nowhere and pop you right in the head.Or your enjoying your calm sunday stroll down the street and you hear a weird humming sound just before you and your teammates blow up from an RPG round.Very fun and addicting.Cool interface and playability.Enjoy this very cool military tactical training sim!
