    Movie synopsis

The story of Loretta Lynn, COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER charts the rise of the queen of country music from her upbringing in backwoods Appalachia to stardom at the Grand Ole Opry. One of eight children, she married at age 13 and was a mother of four at age 20. Shy and naive, she was pushed into music by her husband, Doolittle, who gave her a guitar instead of a ring for their wedding, in what was to be a career that also tracked her complicated relationship with this man. His strengths helped her create numerous hit singles, but his weaknesses inspired such immortal songs as "You Ain't Woman Enough to Take My Man." Sissy Spacek won an Oscar for her virtuoso performance, mimicking Lynn's voice nearly perfectly, while Beverly D'Angelo solidly impersonates Patsy Cline; unlike other music biographies, this film features both actors using their own voices in the singing scenes. Country music legend Ernest Tubb also makes a cameo. For director Michael Apted, COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER is one in a series of films--AGATHA, GORILLAS IN THE MIST, and NELL--he has made about strong, eccentric women.

    A MUST-HAVE movie!

    Created: 11/08/08
Coal Miner's Daughter is probably one of my most favorite movies of all time (the first being Gone With the Wind). I have been a fan of Loretta Lynn since the 60s. I sing and I can do her songs pretty good, which is thrilling to me. Loretta Lynn's life was accurately depicted in this movie and she hand-picked Sissy Spacek for the part. Coal Miner's Daughter should have taken every Academy Award that year and Tommy Lee Jones was wrongfully overlooked for best male actor award. Every actor in the movie should have won but Tommy's, as well as Cissy's performance, was superb. I highly recommend this movie to any and everyone, no matter whether you are a country music fan or not. Loretta Lynn (with Doolittle Lynn being the force behind her!) managed to escape the poverty of Butcher Hollow, KY, as she knew if Doo hadn't come along when he did, she'd remain there the rest of her life and marry a coal miner and be a widower in her 30s.Despite all of this, she loved her home and never forgot her roots and how hard her father worked and how early in life he died because of coal dust. All of these trajedies are intertwined in her songs. Buy the movie. Watch it over and over and you will treasure it!

I love this movie This movie is about a 14year girl who gets married and then starts having Children very quickly then she starts singing. Her father passed away and that took a while for her to get over. Then she met Patsy Clien and they became best friends and sang together. Then over night Patsy Clien dies in a plane crash Lorretta had lost everything her daddy her best friend and she has an emotional breakdown before she sang the next time because she was greiving over Patsy and things were just moving way too fast for Lorretta my two favorite songs on this would be Crazy by Pasty Clien and ColeMinners Daughter

I love this movie because it is a true story, and Sissy Spacek did such an outstanding job, even winning the Oscar for best actress that year for this film. It is an outstanding movie, and I am happy to have been able to buy it to keep forever. I am grateful to ebay for the opportunity to own this movie.

You ain't woman enough to take my man...

This story, of country singing sensation, Loretta Lynne, is told in this movie. Sissy Spacek delivers a truly magical performance by not only acting as Loretta but by singing as Loretta as well. She delivered. Even if you are not a Loretta Lynn fan you may very well enjoy this story as it is a tale of one woman's struggle to pull herself up out of nothing to make her way in the world.
