Cobra Electronics 75 WX ST 40-Channels Handheld CB Radio

I needed a small radio for a Jeep, where there is not a good place to mount a big one. This radio connector box is mounted out of the way under the seat and the mike contains the entire radio. It is acceptable for trail riding but it has a small speaker and is difficult to hear in a noisy place, but it works well. There is some static in the volume control until it is worked a while (to clear the pot). If I had more room, I would go with a normal sized good quality CB radio for better sound. All of the controls are in the mike and can be a bit difficult to use until one gets very familiar with the set. The display has a small display that is difficult to read. Overall, it serves the purpose in the Jeep.

I bought the Cobra WX ST because I had very limited space for a CB in my truck. The unit works very well and will easily transmit a couple of miles with my cheap antenna no problem. I'm sure if I had a more expensive antenna it would do much more. The features like the scan button, a button for CH19, memory buttons and instant weather feature are very handy. Mounting can be almost anywhere as the controls for the unit are all in the mic and the remote unit is tiny and requires minimum space. This also helps for security because it all can be hidden easily under the seat or dash. Overall I would recommend this radio to anyone who needs a reliable CB and has limited space or doesn't want a large unit cluttering up the dash area.

The mic level is too low, as the only way I'm loud enough, is if I eat the mic (place my lips on the space labeled "MIC"). BTW. I am not know for being soft spoken. Engine noise is problematic, none of my other radio do I hear any noise.
I expected the RF output (PA) section was inside the remote box, but it is not? Its in the mic? Gives new meaning to hot mic...

Areas that need improving:
1) Low mic level.
2) Add a Noise Blanker (NB).
3) Channel up/down on same side as PTT. Should be on front panel. Hard to not bump the channel selector.
4) Remote the PA (RF output section). This would allow the RF OP to be at 4-WATTS (mine was 2.5W), and would allow the mic to be smaller, its kinda big, and run cooler.
5) Buttons are not back-lit, cant be seen in the dark.
6) LCD requires reading glasses to see.
7) Too easy to bump volume and squelch knobs (a minor problem).
8) Add SAME (alert) to the Weather radio.

If I could find a schematic online, I'd make it so that when I speak an inch away, it was at 100% modulation.

I have installed and used dozens of different CB radios over the years and Cobra finally got it right. This compact unit takes up zero dash space when not in use as you can just unplug the whole thing and put in in the glove box etc. When coupled with a good antenna, this seems to have all the range of my other full sized units and as my use is primarily outdoor activities, the weather channels are very helpful. I recommend this unit to anyone who has a need for a compact, low cost CB radio installation. Another great feature is that for a very low cost, the termination point for the CB can be purchased separately and installed in a second vehicle, so if you wish to you can just unplug from one and plug into the other and you just transferred your whole cb. Great flexiblility....

This CB is great for what it is intened for: Compact, easy to install, and cheap.

I had this CB installed in my Land Rover LR3 and it worked great! I had it simply wired right beside my right leg by the center console and clipped it next to my steering wheel on the right side. I was up and running in under an hour.

This CB is great if you have limited space in your vehicle.

I ended up replacing the unit for a more "robust" Uniden CB for two reasons:

1. The 75WXST does not have a PA output (so you can talk and yell at other people from your "blow horn" under your hood.
1. The unit does not have any weather channels.

In today's age, you can get weather info from AM/FM or Sattelite radio. And if having a PA is not important to you, then this Cobra 75WXST will do the job and will make a very small "footprint" in your car or truck.
