Album Notes
Lyricists: Dean Roland; Ed Roland; Will Turpin; Joel Kosche.Personnel: Ed Roland (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Joel Kosche (guitar); Bobby Yang (violin); Cheney Brannon (drums, percussion); Will Turpin (percussion, background vocals); Ryan Potesta, Ryan Potesta (programming).Audio Mixers: Chris Lord-Alge; Neal Avron; Shawn Grove.Recording information: Edible Studios, Lake Keowee; Flame Under Heel Studios; Jan Smith Studios; Paramount Studios, Los Angeles, CA.Fourteen years after their first self-titled album, Collective Soul deliver another in 2009 and it's fair to say that the album is a bit of a reintroduction, not a reinvention. It's also fair to ask who Collective Soul are reintroducing themselves to, and the answer is pretty simple: after spending the better part of the decade in the indie leagues, the band is returning to the majors with 2009's COLLECTIVE SOUL, making a pitch at reconnecting with the wide mainstream audience they had a decade ago. The group doesn't ignore what it's done over the last ten years--there's a pronounced Bowie influence that still lingers, first aired on the glam-tastic YOUTH (especially on "Fuzz"), but this is high-gloss, high-octane arena rock. Collective Soul doesn't make an attempt to modernize their sound (although the verse of "Understanding" has an unmistakable phrase borrowed from Jack White) choosing instead to refine their best techniques, so this winds up being a very big, very hooky modern rock record that might not find the audience it once did but only because of the shifting landscape of modern rock. As a record, this is as strong as anything Collective Soul have ever done.

Editorial Reviews
4 Stars - Excellent - ...most of these 12 tracks....are topped with phased, harmonised vocals and choruses which ring with something approaching pop genius.
Q (19950601)

...Soul's second album focuses the group's modest mission on breezy pop songs buffed with uniquely resonant guitars....the combination of ringing pop and lowbrow riffs could well turn them into the Bachman-Turner Overdrive of their generation... - Rating: B
Entertainment Weekly (19950317)

3 Stars - Good - ...With COLLECTIVE SOUL, the band proves it has the goods to continue to shine on brightly...
Rolling Stone (19950615)

Signed Collective Soul CD

Created: 02/11/09
Collective Soul plays the music that touches my soul. I was fortunate enough to attend their live concert where I was able to purchase their latest CD before it was officially released. I think the only thing that could be better than hearing them play would be to have some form of closer contact with them. Their music has helped me get through so many trying times and helped me enjoy so many good times. Finding this autographed cover to the latest CD helps me take a good year to a great year!!

From a music standpoint (I purchased the jacket only), their latest CD is in my opinion one of their best. The current bandmembers seem to have come together nicely. This 2nd self-titled CD makes me feel that the band has come full circle, returning in a way to their older sounds while at the same time having matured and taking those sounds to a higher level. This CD will remind you of their 1st self-titled album. At the end of the CD, Ed Roland recorded a hymn he wrote to his father who passed away a couple years ago. This hymn will move anyone. I can't recommend this CD enough.

Collective Soul (Rabbit) is one of the best!!!

Created: 03/09/09
The new Collective Soul album is so amazing. From the rockin Welcome All Again to the soft yet amazing vocals of Hymn for my father the entire album is Amazing. This album brings back the rocking of Heavy and Where the River Flows from earlier albums yet adds a huge variety into it with the softness of Staring Down, Love and Hymn For My Father. Dig is defiantly one of My favorite songs of this album the rock of it and the sick guitar, with the catchyness of it make me so happy. Wile other bands songs get boring None of Collective Soul's songs do. I can and will listen to this album over and over along with all the other amazing albums form the best band ever!!

A band that doesn't seem to age

Created: 30/09/09
This new release by Collective Soul, although made up of all new songs, reminds a lot the band that they always were. Nothing really changed - the same alternative, almost grunge, college rock touch that play radio and bar friendly songs and captured the minds and hearts of hundreds of thousands of young adults almost anywhere. Lyrics of youth angst, agony and self-reflection, mixed with some heartfelt moments are all this album is about. Long-time fans will certainly recognize the traces of their early works. New fans will not be disappointed by what this album shows.

Rabbit Falls Flat

Created: 06/04/11
This is the worst CS album. Even worse than Blender. The songwriting is weak and the band has abandoned their musical identities we knew and loved since the early 90's ushered in their fame. In Rabbit, they try to sound like a lot of different bands, but even for all their effort what they deliver is less than mediocre. Rabbit was released after the pop-oriented Youth and the lesser known Afterwords. Many fans were disappointed by those two albums, though I thought they were both pretty good. Lots of fun to listen to. But Rabbit gets sucked down the drain by lackluster performances and misguided marketing. CS needs to stick to what they are and if they no longer like it, break up the band. The sea is full of many fishes.

COLLECTIVE SOUL IS BACK!

Created: 09/11/10
This is the closest they have come to matching the quality of their self titled breakthrough album. all of their cds are good, but most have some filler. this cd is good all the way through, plus it rocks. it is good to hear them being a rock band again instead of a pop band that rocks sometimes.
