    Movie synopsis

Steven Spielberg's masterful adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel stars Whoppi Goldberg, in her impressive screen debut, as Celie, a sharecropper's daughter living in rural Georgia. The film opens in 1909 when Celie is a young girl, a victim of incest, pregnant with her father's child. Ugly and unloved, separated from her children and her sister, Celie's only option is marriage to an abusive, philandering husband (Danny Glover) who treats her little better than a slave. Her life changes forever when her husband brings his mistress, a beautiful blues singer named Shug (Margaret Avery), into the house. THE COLOR PURPLE was also the film debut for Oprah Winfrey, who beautifully plays Celie's sister-in-law, Sofia. THE COLOR PURPLE was nominated for 11 Academy Awards (including one each for Goldberg, Avery, and Winfrey) but surprisingly won no Oscars, and although the film was nominated for a Best Picture award, Spielberg was snubbed by the academy and was not nominated for Best Director.

GOD's trying to tell you something

    Created: 08/05/07
I loved this movie, and still watch it to this day. This movie starts out with a life choice that defines the way a young girl fights for all she believes. As you sit on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next, you find that you have tears in your eyes, and in the next moment you feel yourself cheer for celie.

As the movie opens to Celie having her 2nd child you can't help but to want to scream as that child is taken from her arms. As you watch the love and bond between 2 sisters grow stronger as one teaches another to read and run a house you smile at rememberance of your own memories. You want to scream at albert to get his hands of nettie as he tries to rape her and later throw her out of his house and off his property because nettie fought back ( and won!!!!). As you watch Celie get married, beat, degraded, put down, you smile at the first time shug sings to her, to the first time she smiles herself. When that first letter comes in and Celie finds that albert is stealing her sisters words from her she is degermed to read every last letter they found hidden away. You watch the struggles of those around her, the stories will alway cross path's with one another and have a huge impact on Ceile's life. It even shows you what happened to those children her father stole away.

There is so much to watch, and learn that you have to see the movie. This movie has so many different important lessons from morals to fighting for what you believe in, to always trusting that "GOD is trying to tell you something".

I hope this helped you. thanks for reading it, please vote below to let other know how helpful it is.

    Absolutely wonderful!!

This is one of the most amazing movies to ever hit the screen. Everything about it makes it a true masterpiece. The acting of Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfree, and Danny Glover, just to mention a few, was astonishing!! The cinematography was spectacular. So many of the scenes were shot beautifully. The screenplay was brilliant. You are drawn into this movie and you become a part of it. The movie is about so many things, but you walk away from it with a strong sense of the true minority of the time... the Afican American woman. You live, breath, and understand their struggles. You empathize, because that is really all you can do. The way their spirits were broken is tragic... yet they came through on the other side strong! This is a true exploration of coming into your own. An inspirational movie about friendships, family, growth, and triumph. This movie is very long... but not a moment is wasted!!

    A Wonderful Movie

    Created: 10/07/08
Star-studded, Academy Award winning, emotionally charged!
I believe The Color Purple has become one of America's movie classics. I saw the movie when it was first released in 1985. I considered it then one of the best movies I ever had the privilege of viewing. I have watched this movie several times over the last twenty years; the last time being in 2008. I enjoy The Color Purple each time I watch it as much or more than the first time I watched it and look forward to watching again and again in the future.

    The color of Hope.....

    Created: 26/07/07
This movie is touching in so many ways it would be hard to explain all the reasons why one should spend the time to see it. In a career making performance. Oprah and Whoopi make this film worth watching time and again. You will go through so many emotions while watching, it will blow your mind. You will feel as though you know the story, you want to see them survive, thrive and revive. They will make you laugh, cry, wonder, realize and this movie will help you to realize and to be thankful for all the little things in your life that we sometimes seem to forget. what some make take for granted, others never get. And I can promise you, during this movie with all the different types of characters, you will relate to at least one of them.
    Highly recommended Movie!
