Comparative Study Bible
Created: 06/07/06
I decided to buy this study Bible because of the different translations it has: King James Version, Amplified Bible, New American Standard Bible, and the New International Version. Since these are side by side across 2 pages, it is easy to compare the wording and better understand the meaning. I really like this Bible! The only problem is that it is big (9 1/2" x 6 1/2 " by 2 1/2 " thick) but to be expected with all its' contents. It does have reference notes and footnotes helping to further clarify the text.

A Fine Study Bible

I originally was going to get an Amplified Bible to add to my library but I was able to buy this Comparative Study Bible for not much more and get the NASB (my favorite study translation) and the NIV (referenced in many good Christian study resources).
Instead of the KJV, I would love to have had the NKJV or the NLT or the ESV but I know that would add to the cost by having to pay copyright for one those translations. Maybe, instead of the KJV, they could have had a column on the right with lines for my own notes. Just a thought. Having the KJV kept me from giving it an excellent rating.
Binding seems sturdy and, surprisingly, there is room for notes, especially where one translation is shorter than the others. It is heavy but that helps to make it durable. A wonderful study aid.

A landmark biblical resource

This edition is excellent. It combines 4 well accepted editions of the bible (OT/NT) in a beautiful 4 way format, displaying chapter by chapter across each page fold. Great for discerning the meaning of passages between these 4 versions in a easy to view fashion. It surely beats pulling out each version, looking up the passage or chapter and then comparing. Here we have all four laid out before you so you can easily do studies on the Word.
Book is rather large, perhaps a library addition. I dont see this book being one i will carry often. It is a quality bound book, paper is good quality and the typeface is generous in size, making it a pleasurable read.

A great study tool!!! That being said there is one thing you must realize when reading any TRANSLATION it is not the inspired Word of God, it is a translation from the Inspired Word. I like how the 4 column set up with KJV and amplified on one side and NASB and NIV on the other. It always keeps the same verse at the end, so some columns are shorter at time but this helps greatly so you are not flipping back and forth. When I don't quite get the veracity of the statement from the KJV or I inquire deeper wisdom of the scriptures I flip over to the other translations. It says on the cover but I will repeat: the KJV as everybody knows is a word for word translation. The NASB is a word for word translation of modern english dialect. The NIV is a thought for thought translation, but still holds word for word qualities. The amplified is probably the closest to a study bible. Since greek and hebrew words are so full of meaning the amplified using bracketing use a lot of adjectives and cross scripture references in describing a verse and is the most in-depth. If your heart still searches for meaning break out the strong's concordance since this bible doesn't have a concordance and look up the word you desire and search the number in the lexicon. Blueletterbible.com is also an excellent study tool for the in depth bible studier, it takes time to familiarize with the sight, but once you do the Joy of the Lord will be yours as you become more acquainted with Him. Peace be with you all, Love in Christ jamie
