Decent reference for mechanical watch enthusiasts
Created: 01/08/07
I've become more interested in mechanical watches of late, and had gone so far as to sign up for an online course to learn how to assemble and disassemble my own watch. I purchased the Decarle book along with his other book on uncomplicated watches.
I found the book to be very helpful in giving basic background to watchmaking as a craft in general. It seems a little dated -- however, the basic mechanics of today's watches are generally consistent with those made as many as 50 years ago (if not longer), so it was fine. I don't think the book will turn you into an instant watchmaker, but for someone like me, who likes to tinker a little, it was a good book to help deepen my appreciation for the hobby.
