Skewed heavily towards older, predominant UK classic rock artists, this 2-CD set serves up quite a number of stellar performances starting with David Bowie's one-two punch intro of Simon & Garfunkel's "America" and his own "Heroes." Among the most pleasant surprises was an invigorated set by The Who featuring molten readings of "Who Are You," "Baba O'Reilly" and "Won't Get Fooled Again."Other elder statesmen checking in were Elton John ("Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters"), Eric Clapton ("I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man") and Mick Jagger with Keith Richards ("Miss You," "Salt Of The Earth"). Checking in for the younger set were hip-hop superstar Jay-Z ("Izzo [H.O.V.A.]"), Goo Goo Dolls ("American Girl"), Destiny's Child ("Emotion," "Gospel Medley") and the Backstreet Boys ("Quit Playing Games [With My Heart]"). Macca's evening closing finale found him bouncing between Beatles classics ("I'm Down," "Yesterday," "Let It Be") and the inspirational sing-along "Freedom" from 2001's DRIVING RAIN.

The Concert For New York City

Created: 04/06/08
Putting aside the emotions that this concert invokes in me (I'm a proud American and a prouder New Yorker, for I lost 10 friends on 9/11) what can be said when you have a star studded line up like this. My only wish would have been, where was Simon & Garfunkel? (Native N. Y.er's). With that said, this is one GREAT album. With all of our British brothers here performing along side our American brothers and sisters it makes me proud and sad that it had to be done. Bowie's rendition of "America", the Who, never sounding better, and who can forget E. C.'s "Hoochie Coochie Man" w/ Buddy Miles? And appropiately finishing the concert off is Sir Paul McCartney, WOW! And then there's the All American heroes: Mellencamp (my all time favorite, besides the Beatles of course),Etheridge, James Taylor, Bon Jovi and New York's favorite son Billy Joel. On the sweet and sorry side of this concert is Opera Man (very funny) and Mike Moran the fireman who lost his brother and fellow brethren of the FDNY. This is a wonderful album, full of great music. Thank you, 631mikee

The WHO and Paul McCartney

Who knows how long it had been since The WHO played with this much purpose but this night they fed off the energy of the crowd.
Also check out a really good performance by Paul McCartney on the classic rocker 'I'm Down' and the newer tune 'Freedom'.
