    Synopsis
John Perkins writes of his experiences in a job that few people are aware exists: economists whose primary function is to persuade developing countries to take on enormous loans so that they can hire American companies, thus diverting vast sums of money back into the U.S. When these countries have trouble repaying, the American government steps in and dictates terms, essentially hijacking the economy of the place. Perkins's view of the domination of the global economy by the U.S. and of the greed and power plays this involves, is a controversial one that his former employers attempted to suppress for many years. Perkins claims that this "confession" could pave the way for reform but that, if nothing else, it has eased his conscience.

    Industry Reviews
"John Perkins was for 10 years a player in a high-stakes game of global empire. CONFESSIONS OF AN ECONOMIC HIT MAN is his very personal account of the events that forced him to choose between conscience and a glamorous life of power, luxury and beautiful women. It is also an adventure thriller worthy of Graham Green or John Le Carré that connects the dots between corporate globalization, American Empire, and the dynasty of the House of Bush."

    Finally, the Truth

    Created: 05/01/09
I was so impressed with "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man", I bought it for a friend. This book describes how the author,John Perkins, was sent by his corporation to third world countries to convince them to take out huge loans for programs that would make the author's company rich and put the third world country in perpetual debt to the World Bank when all the rosy promises of econimc proserity didn't come true. According to Perkins, the World Bank is essentially operated by the United States. He states that corporations such as the one at which he was employed have worked closely with our government to form a huge global economic empire of which the average US citizen is totally ignorant. No wonder the world hates us. It's a scary book but one every concerned person should read. It sheds a whold new light on world politics.

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man

    Created: 02/07/10
John Perkins tells the story of how (and why) he was recruited to enter the sinister society of global greed and control. Anyone who thinks our government is benevolent and above board with regard to our dealings with developing countries needs to read this. I enjoyed Perkin's intimate details of how the "System" works. His eye-opening revelations of Economic Hit Men, The Jackels and other ways of soliciting allies of economically depressed countries.
He's making a confession. He's explaining how easy it was to justify what he was doing. Now he's clearing his conscience and opening our eyes to the dirty little (big) secrets of how we've managed to become the "rich" nation we are and (one reason) why so many other countries hate us.

    Couldn't put it down!

    Created: 12/09/06
This book is a must read for ayone and everyone that thinks they know about americas foreighn affairs policy. It simply breaks everything down and through the life of a Mr. John Perkins, describes how an American republic was forged into an American Empire by the greed of the individuals sitting at the top. I had slight notions about what the book mentions but had no clue as to what and how much I was misinformed and even uninformed about.
Bottom line, an easy and fun read that will probably change your mindset about how the world works.

It's an interesting volume; you'll not regret buying it

    Created: 07/02/08
I thought it was a volume based on economic principles. I found it to be a novel, so to speak, that exposed greed, corruption, extortion, cheating, murder, poverty in the availability of abundant resource to make one well-off. All these are carried out by highly financially rewarded professionals who are agents of multinational corporations around the globe. In anycase, it is fascinating. I love it. I will not regret buying a copy for a good friend becasue I will not part with mine.
