Contra (Nintendo, 1988)

Even if you didn't grow up with the NES or you didn't own Contra you probably heard about the secret infinite lives code - Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A B A Select State - on the Control Pad before the opening menu scrolls in. Well, Contra is a game perfect for such a code. The bullets fly fast, and without many extra lives, you may find it pretty difficult to beat the game, but with it, you can sit back and enjoy the ride. Game has two types of stages - a side scrolling and a more "Three-dimensional" stage where your character moves left to right and then forward through some sort of cavernous area. Game is best played with two players. You really must have this game to add to any respectible NES collection.

With extra lives, the game plays quick, but if you're looking for a challenge, don't enter the code. Like most NES games, the storyline isn't anything to write home about (or even understand unless you have the instructions or look online) but you'll pass the time just fine running around and shooting people.

The most important factor in rating this game is its over-all rating. When deciding on what Nintendo NES games to buy the past judgment of millions of players has proven this game to be a hit classic that will never lose appeal. The gameplay on Contra is very responsive, which means it will never slow down, even in multiplayer mode. Levels 2 and 4 are the only levels that are strange and unkind being that you are walking into a three dimensional walkway being bombarded by bad guys and drums that knock you down. The game isn't extremely hard but having to start over as your continues end makes it a challenge. All in all, this is one of the best games made for the NES so go pick it up. Dahl4you at Ebay.

Loved this title as a kid, and I still love it many years later. I can't wait till my son is old enough to play it. He may not feel the same way I do, but I love the old 8 bit games. This one doesn't have all the glitz and glamor as the new games out there. But it's basic graphics and simplistic game play is what makes it so great and fun to play.

This game is one of the best games ever made for the NES. And still one of the most famous games ever. With the dual play, non-stop action and creative boards, its no surprise why it lives on today. If there was one thing to knock about this game is the relatively small amount of time it takes to comeplete it (with the code of course).

However its still fun to play over and over! Relive your youth and go for it!!

I remember playing this game with a few friends.I remember "The Code".I own an old school NES that I still play.I decided to buy this game because I use to have this game in my own collection of games for the NES,I lost this game and I never found it,so I decided to check out Ebay and what do you know! I found one for a good bargain.This game is truly a treasure.Super C and Contra 3 are cool,but their not as good as the original Contra.This game is totally AWESOME!!!.
