Taylor ; James Taylor ; Larry Goldings; Lou Marini; Walt Fowler ; Yo-Yo Ma.James Taylor has never been afraid of covers--some of his biggest hits include relaxed versions of the soul classics "How Sweet It Is" and "Handy Man," as well as his sensitive acoustic take on Carole King's "You've Got A Friend"--but COVERS is his first album consisting entirely of other people's songs. Recorded live-to-tape with his 11-piece touring band, these 12 songs range from playful takes on early rock and R&B classics like Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away" and the Drifters' "On Broadway" to graceful versions of songs by contemporaries like Jimmy Webb ("Wichita Lineman") and Leonard Cohen ("Suzanne"). It's a fresh, relaxed, and endearing take on the often-tired covers album concept.

Editorial Reviews
3 stars out of 5 -- [M]ainly a joyous affair, good-timey in a well structured way and often reminiscent of the kind of thing Johnny Rivers used to dispense at the start of the '70s.
Mojo

3.5 stars out of 5 -- [A] great singer-songwriter playing DJ, showcasing songs he loves for listeners who love him.

I love my new James Taylor Covers CD. It is great to hear other OLD FAVORITES done the JT way. He really is a hero of mine so it made it a MUST BUY CD! Then I actually listened to the tunes and went back to the 70's and 80's in mind again. He and the band really did a wonderful job on these old classics.

Like coming home

It is comforting that after 40 years (or more) James Taylor can still make my heart jump. His voice is a true constant. This eclectic collection runs the gambit from R&B to Country. His rendition of Suzanne is great. He still looks as good as he sounds.

Always a Class Act

Created: 17/06/09
I'm a child of the 60's and although I love a lot of today's music,(Maroon 5, Jason Mraz, Ben Taylor, John Mayer, Shelby Lynne etc...) I still think James Taylor is a class act. He has taken some oldie but goodies and put his own spin on them. I love it!
