Believing he is investigating the work of a horrible new breed of killer when he encounters a murder scene of particular violence at the home of his oldest friend, Detective Alex Cross finds himself entangled in the deadly Nigerian underworld of Washington, D.C.

Detective Alex Cross is called to the worst murder scene he has encountered in all his years on the force. Someone with less than zero regard for human life has slaughtered a family - and then more killings, each one more ruthless than the last, quickly follow. One of those deaths comes terrifyingly close to home, and Alex realizes that he is chasing a horrible new breed of killer.
As Alex and his girlfriend, Detective Brianna Stone, dig deeper into the case, they become entangled in the deadly African underworld of Washington DC. What they discover there is so shocking that they can barely comprehend it: a strongly organized gang of teenage thugs headed by a diabolical warlord known only as the Tiger. When the elusive killer's trail turns up in Africa, Alex knows that he must follow. Alone.
When Alex arrives in Nigeria, he discovers a world where justice is as foreign as he is. Unprotected and alone in a strange country, bombarded on all sides by the murderous threats of the Tiger, can Alex manage to both survive and catch the killer?

i think i screamed with fustration almost the entire book.

what was he thinking going to africa?
and he keeps going back for more punishment like palvo's dog.
i didn't care for it much, i was very fustrated with this book.

it wasn't as suspenseful or there was no "reveal" at the end life in previous books

Only a little disappointed!

Created: 27/04/09
Contrary to all of the other Alex Cross novels, I found this one a little hard to believe. Oh, I believe that horrible atrocities occur regularly in Africa, what I do not believe is that a DC detective would chase a killer there. I also do not believe that the very intelligent, highly educated Dr. Cross, would not realize the complications involved dealing with another country prior to his arrival in Africa. Those things said, it was another good book by Patterson, not his best, but still a very thrilling tale.

Cross most dangerous case yet?

Created: 19/06/09
I love the book. Story takes place in Alex Cross home town D.C. Where he comes across a dangerous man who has no respect for human life. The chase leads Alex Cross to the continent of Africa and back home again. Where he has no idea how bad it really is there and his life is in danger when he finds himself being the hunted instead of the hunter.
Patterson once again shows his legion of followers why he's one of the best suspense authors in the world today.

a good book to think about.

I have been following the Alex Cross series since it's inception ande I couldn
't miss this one. At first I didn't think I would be able to finish reading the book because of the violence and a base bone depression. I am really glad that I did finish it because it informed me of the calamitites that are going on the world. The book is fiction but I truly believe it reflects on nonfiction. I think that I would never qualify this as an enjoyable read it really make you think.

great book

as with most of james patterson's work, this one is suspenseful and fast moving!! his style of writing with short chapters is ideal for those who tire of lengthy chapters. with his current format, one can leisurely read without getting tired. cross country takes alex cross to another continent to pursue the "bad guys."
