Movie synopsis

When Owen Matthews (Julian Morris) makes up a fake, very detailed story about a serial killer and e-mails it to all the students at Westlake--which is yet another private school his father (Gary Cole) has sent him off to--he has no idea what he has begun. Soon his fictional murderer, "the Wolf," is sneaking around campus, scaring the students and leaving behind a trail of blood. What started out as a relatively innocent game between a group of friends has now turned real, and Owen seems to be the only one who can stop it. But the deeper he goes, the more he doesn't like what he finds out--until he becomes the ultimate target. Cowriter Jeff Wadlow's feature-film directing debut, CRY WOLF, has chills and thrills around every corner, playing off of contemporary genre clichés to deliver a funny and frightening movie. The last part of the film, especially, is filled with surprise after surprise. Morris is excellent as the new student troublemaker, and Lindy Booth provides good support as Dodger, the leader of the group and a potential love interest for Owen. Musician Jon Bon Jovi stars as a cool journalism teacher, and performance artist Anna Deavere Smith has a cameo as the school's headmistress. The alternapop soundtrack includes songs from Low, 22-20s, Helio Sequence, Cake, and Classic featuring JoJo Pellegrino.

A Well-Crafted Film Overall Well Scripted and Edited

The really terrible games begin much earlier at this prep school than you might have expected for our British student named Owen.

Before the film begins character introductions and gets underway, we somehow witness the tale end of a brutal shooting of a young blond woman we have no idea what, when, how, or why.

Our foreign guy named Owen, who has happened to land at this school because of bad circumstances from his previous girl-friend's revenge, lands him at this school only to fall into a group of smart and sassy students who know each other all much to well. Playing a mid-night game where those involved wager upon keeping from being the Wolf. This frightful game has three important rules: Avoid suspicion, lie to your best friends, and eliminate you enemies.

Much to the chagrin of everyone in the group, Owen (Julian Morris), plays the game so well, he comes away with all the money. We soon find that Dodger (Lindy Booth) convinces or sways Owen to spread a hoax email about the murder of this girl by a supposed serial killer describing in detail how it happened and how others next will meet their demise.

This film was well-crafted and thought through, thanks to Jeff Wadlow and Beau Bauman's collaborated genius. At 91 minutes, it's editing was marked only buy its scenery. Even though the story-line gets quite complicated it times, it always seems to follow the one character Owen and keep you feeling for his plight.

Many tricks and turns in this movie, so don't expect any particular outcome, since this film was made to entice the viewer into following it through until the end. If I told you the outcome of this film, it might just spoil things for you, so I'm going to let you decide if you are up for a good mystery/thriller.

I'm going to give this film a 3/5, but I've seen the Unrated Version, and I'd say, it really spices thing up a bit as well.

There's A New Subject In High School

It's called "Wolf" when bored kids at a private school invent a game about lying they pull a newcomer into the mix he wins, but they soon realize the game is growing boring..then one student Dodger invents a twist they invite the entire school to play..first they spread a lie about the killer of a pretty young coed being a student in the school. As the students begin spreading the rumour they sit back and enjoy the start of their game, but all is not well as the newcomer starts getting ims from someone called "Wolf" Has their story about the killer a grain of truth imbedded?..Watch this fun roller coaster ride of a movie and find out...the twist at the end will leave you slack jawed and begging for more..I give this film 5 out of 5 bars..

A decent film definitely worth a once over!!!

Cry Wolf

Decent, but nothing spectacular. It's worth watching, but even the most seasoned Slasher fans won't want to own it!

Cry Wolf follows a band of Private School Preppies as they play a game in which the rules are simple - Scare the Other Players

The story is decent and the acting is alright, even the ending is a little twisted. The film offers up a small collection of scares but isn't that memorable.

Final Verdict:

3/5

Rent or Buy?: Being the huge horror fan that I am, this one still isn't in my collection. And unless I get it as a gift, it's going to stay that way!!!
