At that point, Guy had not made a studio album for a decade. The fact that Eric Clapton, who made sure that Buddy was a regular guest on his Royal Albert Hall blues nights, had called him the world's greatest guitarist still had not gained him a recording contract. Silvertone put that right with sessions that included the best session men from Britain and America, with guest appearances by Clapton, Jeff Beck and Mark Knopfler. The album showed all sides of Guy's talent, the blues singer, the soul man and the extravagantly gifted guitarist. A reluctant star, he has nevertheless taken full advantage of his new-found status as the uncrowned King of Chicago Blues.New York Times (1/1/92) - "...With savagely frenetic guitar solos and a voice that's faced down hard times, the longtime blues mainstay delivered the best album of his career..."Rolling Stone (2/6/92, pg.79) - 3.5 Stars - Very Good - "...as good as Guy gets...damn good news for the blues..."

Buddy Is BACK!

Created: 05/02/10
Eric Clapton has made a point to have Buddy play at his Crossroads benefit concerts and has been trying to inspire him to get back into the studio. It took a while, but when you have artists like these lads to back you up, the decision becomes easy. A little name dropping that my seller didn't include in his listing: Jeff Beck, Neil Hubbard, Mark Knopfler and Clapton and that is only guitar players.

Buddy goes at it like when he was young, playing with Muddy Waters. Raunchy, hopping and as always, playing games with the rhythm section and The Memphis Horns.

Watch a couple of auctions and you'll get a deal on a KILLER CD!

This Guy Really Hurts!!

Created: 07/03/07
This is Blues at it's dirtiest. Wonderful collection of music and musicians. Buddy Guy is referenced over and again in publication and by other artists, but does not have a lot of recordings. On this album Robin Trower and Eric Clapton play backup--that's right--backup! When Buddy Sings the lyrics, even to the standards, you know that it is his song and his pain. His guitar work only accentuate that. It almost makes you feel like scratching and howling mournfully. I especially like the Piece "Five Long Years"--referring to the time that the character worked for this woman who then cold-heartedly threw his butt out. But as one of my female friends pointed out--What about the story of the woman that had supported him for the additional 20 years when he wasn't working? (A woman might look at it that way if she didn't understand the blues.) If you love the Down and Dirty Blues at it's most painful, this is it, Presented only as this Guy can do it!
