Publisher's Note
In this epic of unsurpassed action and imagination, Michael Stackpole helps to launch an exciting new era in Star Wars® history. ONSLAUGHT pits the battle-tested heroes of the past--Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa Solo--along with the next generation of Jedi and droids, against fearsome never-before-encountered enemies from beyond the galactic rim . . .

It is a perilous time for the New Republic. Just when unity is needed most, mistrust is on the rise. Even the Jedi feel the strain, as rogue elements rebel against Luke's leadership. When alien invaders known as the Yunnan Vong strike without warning, the New Republic is thrown on the defensive. Merciless warriors, the Yunnan Vong glory in torture. Their technology is as strange as it is deadly. Most ominous of all, they are impervious to the Force.

Now Luke must wield all the awesome powers of a Jedi Master to defeat the gravest threat since Darth Vader. As Leia and Gavin Darklighter lead desperate refugees in a fighting retreat from Yunnan Vong forces, Mara Jade, Anakin, Jacen, and Corran Horn find themselves tested as never before by a faceless, implacable foe determined to smother the light of the New Republic forever beneath a shroud of darkest evil . . .

The fledgling New Republic confronts its ultimate challenge as mistrust and treachery threaten to destroy it from within, rogue elements rebel against Luke Skywalker's leadership, and alien invaders called the Yuuzhan Vong strike without warning

A great book!

Star Wars: The New Jedi Order
Dark Tide 1: Onslaught

Onslaught is a softcover book that was published in February of 2000 by Del Rey books. It was written by Michael A. Stackpool. It is the second book in the New Jedi Order Series.

Summary:

Reeling from the initial incursions of the extragalactic Yuuzhan Vong, the forces of the New Republic regroup to Coruscant, where former Chief of State Leia Organa Solo addresses the Galactic Senate and finds the members divided on how to deal with the Yuuzhan Vong threat. The Yuuzhan Vong's beachhead on Belkadan undergoes Vongforming while Jedi Master Luke Skywalker endeavors to unite the Jedi while Han and Leia's daughter Jaina accepts a place in Rogue Squadron.

I found that this was a nice follow up to the first book in the series. The New Republic falls back and assesses the consequences of the new intergalactic invaders. All the time we see that the Vong continue their onslaught without remorse!

A good book! 4/5

Bad,bad,bad

You need to be a hardcore fan to like this book. I’m not one of them. So I hated it. It was a short book, which was great. But it needed more details. The list of new Jedi’s were surprisingly high. The last Star Wars book I read had only Luke and Leia as Jedi’s. Now Luke’s married, he has a kid, Leia has 3, and there is like 50 new Jedi’s, etc…….etc……… I was confused with the names. Not a good buy. I’ve read better Star Wars books than this.

I thought this was a great read. There was plenty of action, a great alien villian. Have not read too many of the Star Wars sets, but this one kept my attention. I couldn't put them down.
