    Movie synopsis

Talented Spanish filmmaker Jaume Balaguero's film DARKNESS is a terrifying tale in which an ordinary American family moves to a large, creaky Victorian home in the Spanish countryside that, unbeknownst to them, was the scene of some awful experiments on the night of a total eclipse 40 years before. Teenage daughter Regina (Anna Paquin) decides to investigate after unexplained bruises show up on her younger brother (Stephen Enquist), and her father (Iain Glen) displays oddly enraged and erratic behavior. Although her mother (Lena Olin) and her grandfather (Giancarlo Giannini) refuse to believe her, Regina is convinced that something within their new home is the cause of the trouble. As another eclipse looms, Regina enlists the help of her new boyfriend (Fele Martinez) and uncovers truths that could literally destroy her family.Balaguero mixes tried and true cinematic scare devices with his own brand of macabre originality to bring a well-paced, ominous atmosphere to the supernatural ghost story genre. He drains the film of colorful hues and bright light, and effectively uses sound to paralyze and terrorize his viewers. Having thoroughly scared the daylights out of European audiences, DARKNESS is sure to do the same stateside.

I have seen better in scary movies, but this one has just enough spooky surprises that it leaves you will chills and goosebumps on your entire body..not sure I get the background on this one..I wont give away anything...movie opens with a young Girl and her little brother together with their Parents moving to the Fathers place of birth/childhood home.. jolly old England, funny the Grandfather has a english accent, but the Father doesn't..we find out later the Father has a strange past which leaves him really messed up..the ending is a surprise for everyone I wont let it slip (sorry you'll just have to watch it for yourself!) Do watch this and enjoy!

Peculiar and disarming, this is a very good film for anyone who enjoys being haunted. While I liked this film very much, a few others were confused by the deception of the dark force haunting this family. So it's a film to be watched closely... and then to be watched again, just in case you missed something the first time around. VERY GOOD / 4.75 STARS John Hughey

Darkness is a suspenseful film with a very creepy ending. Not for the squeamish...there is a bit of gore in this film. The ending will have you up all night long. Pure evil :)~

along the lines of AMITYville, haunted house movies, really good movie. i have seen better movies but its good. if you turn down the lights and turn the volume up it will scare the hell outa you. but by far the scaryest has to be the first Resident Evil (video game) on the ps 2, the creepy music and the zombies in the background well thats was scary.
