A Night to Remember ... à la Gilmour!

Created: 27/08/10
The genius of Pink Floyd guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour comes center-stage in this concert from London's Royal Albert Hall! With recent works from Gilmour's solo career, and classics from the best of the best of Pink Floyd, Gilmour brings every note and chord to life in this wonderfully electrifying evening! Joined by Floyd co-founder keyboardist, the late great Richard Wright, Pink Floyd collaborator saxophonist Dick Parry (also featured on Dark Side of the Moon), and special guests David Bowie, David Crosby, and Graham Nash, Remember the Night gives listeners a night to remember! Sound and lighting for the DVD recording are crystal-clear, and note-for-note, the strings of Gilmour's guitars enthrall the listener!

LOVE THIS DVD SET!

Created: 05/07/09
Before buying this DVD set I previewed it by checking it out from the local library. Everything about this production is top-notch! Sound quality & camera work are superb! Songs are excellent (tho I wish there were more Pink Floyd songs.) I think the sound quality and performances are better than the "Live at G'Dansk" audio discs - which I also previewed from local library and chose not to buy. (I have not viewed the G'Dansk DVD so cannot comment on it...)

Some guitarist sound great in the studio because they over-dub the hell out of their music, but then when playing live they just really sound flat (i.e.- single dimensional, lacking depth) because they don't have multiple tracks of riffs to give their full sound. GILMOUR ROCKS LIVE and doesn't get sloppy or cut corners when he plays live! His riffs and tone are as good live as in the studio. The team of musicians on this tour with him we're all top notch and you could tell they liked being there. REALLY COOL to see Richard Wright reunited with David. His keyboard work and vocals were so much of the Floyd sound, and he shines on the vintage Floyd tracks! I was saddened by recently learning that Richard passed away Sept 15, 2008. This DVD set was produced in 2007, so may have been the last performances Richard did with David.

IN ADDITION TO ALL THE SUPERB QUALITY TRACKS/SOUND MENTIONED ABOVE: you get live footage on Disc Two that takes you on the road & behind the scenes with the band & crew. You get to hear interview clips with Gilmour and Richard Wright (R.I.P.) about different players in the band and various songs. This intimate look at the behind-the-scenes stuff these guys & gals do to bring a production of this magnitude and quality to people while on tour in U.K. and Europe was very cool. Felt like I was there on tour with these guys.

BUT WAIT - THERE'S MORE!!!
You get to see Gilmour's boathouse recording studio - The Astoria - and footage of the making of his "On An Island" album. It's neat to see how well his music and wife Polly's lyrics come together... learn the stories behind each song's origin. Just real cool stuff if you are into knowing more.

Summary: I came away from viewing this more of a Gilmour fan then before and have a solid respect for him as a person based on the quality of people he surrounds himself with in addition to the quality of his music & guitar playing.

David never ceases to amaze me!

Created: 25/06/08
This double disc set includes hours and hours of quality music. He plays his whole album "On an Island" as well as countless Pink Floyd classics. He even has friends like David Crosby, Graham Nash, David Bowie and more share in the fun. Richard Wright plays keyboards as he did back in the Floyd era and Dick Perry rocks the sax and other instruments just like old time. There are music videos as well as other bonus features that can be appreciated by anyone with ears and eyes.

I would say that if you like Pink Floyd or even just Mr. Gilmour, then this is a must have.

David Gilmour - Remember That Night - Live at the Royal

Created: 17/11/08
This is a MUST HAVE for any Pink Floyd fan. Classics like "Shine on you crazy diamond" and "Comfortably Numb", are accompanied by Crosby & Nash, David Bowie are as good as, or better than the originals. David Gilmore is a rare musician that has not lost a step, still sings and plays like he did 30 years ago. For those not familiar with his originals, David Gilmore's music is refreshingly different from Pink Floyd. So get in front of the big screen, crank up the surround sound, and prepare for a concert exerience in the beutiful Royal Albert Hall! Enjoy!

Old songs, new songs, GREAT performances!

Created: 06/02/08
What a great DVD, a must for all Pink Floyd and David Gilmour fans. Not only are the performances wonderful, but the bonus features on the second disc are outstanding. Several documentaries, including one following them on tour through Europe.
The concert footage was very well produced. I liked that it didn't have any of the videos that the Pulse DVD has when they play them during the songs. I liked it on Pulse, but it's distracting and I enjoyed their absence on this concert so I could focus on the performances.
They play some favorite Floyd standards, a few old ones dusted off, and the entire "On An Island" CD live. I didn't get into the "On An Island" when it came out, but to see it performed live, inspired me and it's now my favorite Gilmour solo effort.
Richard Wright also performs the entire concert with Dave and an excellent band. They may be in their 60's now, but they still ROCK! Especially Gilmour!
This is a must see.
