Album Notes
Days Of The New: Travis Meeks (vocals, guitar); Todd Whitener (guitar); Jesse Vest (bass); Matt Taul (drums).Additional personnel: Todd Smith (organ); Adam Turgeon (drums).Recorded at Woodland Studios, Nashville, Tennessee.Personnel: Travis Meeks (vocals, guitar); Todd Whitener (guitar); Matt Taul (drums).Audio Mixer: James Rosenthal.Recording information: Allen Martin Studios, Louisville, KY; Woodland Studios, Nashville, TN.Illustrator: Chris Bilheimer.Photographers: Chris Bilheimer; Jim Goldberg.Days Of The New frontman Travis Meeks is probably pretty sick of being told how much older he sounds on tape. Judging from the band's self-titled debut, the deep-voiced 18 year-old has apparently been brooding for a lot longer than he's been shaving. He could send Scott Weiland and James Hetfield running back to their growling coach, while his lyrics explore youthful ennui with uncommon maturity."Solitude" moves from a spacey, angelic intro to a sinister vocal trade-off, while "Touch, Peel And Stand" juxtaposes attention-grabbing off-time accents with a slow, languorous chorus. Produced by Scott Litt (R.E.M), the sonic foundation of DAYS OF THE NEW is made up of acoustic guitars, close, double-tracked vocal harmonies, and a straightforward, powerful rhythm section. Guitarist Todd Whitener contributes acrobatic lead work, contrasting perfectly with DAYS OF THE NEW's slow, melancholic burn.

i am the ground.. and the dirt.. walk on me...

i picked this album up on tape the summer of '99 in the midst of a crazy ear infection
but this album made it alllllll better

first ill get this out of the way: travis meeks is a f*^$ing GENIUS.

this is their first album, released in 97 or 98 i believe. the whole feel of the album is very earthy, due to the exclusive use of acoustic guitars. its a lot harder to play acoustic guitars; theres a lot less to rely upon. it all combines together in such an even way.. no instrument drowns out or overshadows another. the music is very mellow in some parts, other parts it can even be a bit creepy, but throughout it flows with the force of a river. a dynamite rhythm section in bassist jesse vest & drummer matt taul, a scorching lead guitarist in todd whitener, and what can only be described as a powerhouse frontman in rhythm guitarist/vocalist travis meeks all come together to create this gem, this unspoiled soundscape of moody, atmospheric acoustic rock. make no bones about it, the guitars are acoustic but this packs a punch; everything about this album is just so raw & honest. the artwork matches the mood of the music so perfectly, you know it just has to be a vision come to life. its a shame that this is the only days of the new album like this (strictly acoustic), but one can hardly fault mr meeks for consistently growing as an artist & human being. all the more reason to cherish each and every album as theyre unique and will never come around again. the follow ups (green, red) are every bit as headstrong, inspired and flawless as this masterpiece.

bottom line, if youre into grooving riffs, acoustic guitars, solid songwriting, and songs that will stick with you a lifetime, pick this album up at all costs, you will not be disappointed.

two bongs wayyyyyyyy up!

*eagerly anticipating the purple album* :D

Meeks IS a genius!~

Created: 26/01/10
One of the best cd's you could ever own! Travis Meeks began this DOTN journey at 17 years old, had a network TV debut on David Letterman playing Touch, Peel and Stand with the band... Later he went on to make two more albums under the Days of the New name without the band and played nearly every instrument you hear. The "Yellow" album was post grunge and in an era when metal was lacking, but this album being testosterone driven, shows just how musically gifted Meeks is combining the raw/natural beauty of an acoustic set, tribal style beats, Meeks' naturally smooth yet gritty voice... all make turn this one album into a whimsical spirit in itself. Look for the Green, Red and soon to come Purple albums, under the new name Days of the New presents Tree Colors. Enjoy this masterpiece!

Days of the New

Created: 29/01/09
This is a CD that came out in the late 90's, alot of people have forgotten about them. This is a great collection of songs from start to finish. The acoustic guitar throughout the CD really sets the band apart from other groups in the 90's, also with popular songs like Shelf in the room, Touch Peel Stand, and Freak. The disc is a must have for music lovers who like 90's rock like Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, or Alice In Chains

this is the second time i have bought this cd. i listened to the first one so much that i wore it out. this is acoustic rock that is very melodic and relaxed but powerful and deep. this is a great cd you really need to check it out, this band does not get enough credit for their work
