Creepy Christopher Walken in Creepy Stephen King Story
Created: 15/09/06
This movie is considered a horror movie for the supernatural aspects. But it is really more part crime story and drama.
Based on one of Stephen Kings best books, The Dead Zone is the story of Johnny Smith. A teacher who is in a horrible car accident and ends up in a coma for 5 years. He wakes up with a gift (or curse, depends on how you look at it) that makes him see the future. His girlfriend has married, his job is gone and he cannot touch anyone for fear of his visions.
Yes, it sucks to be him but he soon realizes the good he can do with the gift. He helps the police catch a serial killer, saves a few people etc etc. Thing is he cannot help everyone and some do not want to be helped.
Johnny seems to be getting back to normal life when he meets a charismatic politician (Martin Sheen). By shaking the hand of the politician Johnny sees the future of the world and realizes what he must do to prevent a devastating war.
Christopher Walken does an amazing job. He is usually creepy but here he tones it down and brings a sadness that really makes you feel for Johnny. With a director like David Cronenberg you know the atmosphere is tense and dark. With a story so complex and with so much happening this could have been a mess. But screenwriter Jeffrey Boam and Cronenberg did such an amazing job at keeping the story flowing that you are at the edge of your seat the whole time.
Highly recommended for fans of tense drama with the atmosphere of a good horror movie.

Future Not All That Bright

This adaptation of the Stephen King classic is one of the better remakes of his books. Christopher Walken is in this movie. Enough said. He is an excellent actor, and this performance is no different. He plays Johnny Smith, who after a terrible accident, can see the future. Sounds cool. In some ways, it is. He helps solve murders, but then he foresees the end of the world. Now what does he do, stop it or let life run it's course? If you've seen this movie and like it, I also recommend the TV series with Anthony Micheal Hall. There are a few things that are different in the series such as they made Sara's son also Johnny's son, and I don't believe it's as good as the movie, but it's still good entertainment.

If you ask me anything with Walken in it its got to be good. From writer Stephen King and Director David Cronenburg its got to be good and this one is a good one.
