Publisher's Note
A brilliant re-imagining and updating of the classic Frankenstein story that only Dean Koontz could conceive, PRODIGAL SON is the first volume in a four-book series that opens with the "monster"--Deucalion--coming to modern-day New Orleans, where he will join forces with a street-smart police detective and her partner on the trail of a macabre serial killer...a serial killer spawned, Deucalion will discover, by his own creator, Dr. Victor Frankenstein, now Victor Helios. Deucalion has survived for two centuries, given near immortality by the furious lightning storm that brought him to life. But he is no monster--not anymore. While he carries a quiet mystery about him, Deucalion is literate, intelligent, and very much in control of himself, almost as if he has an inner peace. For two hundred years Deucalion has thought himself alone among men, an aberrant creation of an evil mind. Now he will find that his fellows are legion...that they live among us at every strata of society...and that his nemesis, Victor Frankenstein, has survived the centuries as well...and dreams of seeding the earth with his creations. Loosely based on Dean Koontz's FRANKENSTEIN, the national network television series scheduled to begin airing on USA at Halloween, and co-authored with Kevin Anderson, subsequent volumes in the series will continue Deucalion's pursuit of Victor Helios and his unnatural army, in partership with two tough, bemused New Orleans cops, and will move back and forth in time as well, unspooling Deucalion's story from the time the original story closed. Rich, suspenseful, heartbreaking and terrifying, Dean Koontz's FRANKENSTEIN will explore as only "the master of the psychological drama"* can, the heights to which we might aspire, the depths to which some may fall, and what, in the end, it means to be truly human.
*Larry King, USA Today

In a dramatic reworking of Mary Shelley's classic horror novel, Detective Carson O'Connor and her partner, Michael Maddison, are confronted by a vicious serial killer who stalks the city streets in search of victims that possess the humanity missing in himself, and uncover a link to an ages-old conspiracy in which their quarry in not only a homicidal maniac but also his deranged maker. Original.

Another triumph for Dean Koontz

Created: 20/09/10
From the imagination of storyteller supreme, Dean Koontz, comes the first installment of the riveting Frankenstein series...
Mad scientist Victor Frankenstein has survived for over two centuries using arcane techniques to keep himself "young"-and he is now bent on the destruction of the human race, creating a "super race" with DNA and cloning technology...they are stronger, faster, and harder to kill than any human, and they have been programmed with a deep hatred for the "old race", awaiting only their master's order to begin waging their Final War. Unknown to Frankenstein, who now is called Victor Helios, his original "monster" has also survived the centuries. He is now Deucalion-intelligent, compassionate, and stronger than even the New Race creatures, and he is committed to destroying his megalomaniac creator. He meets and joins forces with New Orleans detectives Carson O'Connor and Michael Maddison, who at first have a hard time believing Deucalion's horrifying revelation of the coming nightmare...
This tale is a complete thrill ride, frightening and hard to put down. You will want to read the continuing stories, "Frankenstein-City of Night" (book 2), "Dead and Alive" (book 3) and "Lost Souls" (book 4) when you finish this one!

Frankenstein Book1: Prodigal Son

Created: 10/05/08
Like everything I've read so far from Dean Koontz, this is an excellent book. Dean and Kevin Anderson continue the story of Frankenstein in modern times. The same major characters are still alive: Victor F. and the Monster. I won't ruin things by telling how or why they are still around after a couple of centuries, but they are and Victor's up to no good. I've read Book I and Book II and am waiting rather impatiently for Book III to come out.

Come on Dean & Kevin, let's have it! I can't wait to find out how you two wrap this up. (maybe with book IV, V, and VI ? - hint, hint...)

He's Stll Alive!! Excellent Read!

Created: 13/10/06
Dean Koontz steps on no toes here and does not disgrace the good Mary Shelley name by "rewriting" Frankenstein's Monster. He simply takes the classic character and his cruel creator and brings them into this century.

Yes, Ducaleon is Frankensten's monster and he's still alive and living a secluded life in a monestary. His world is shaken though when an old friend sends for him. He comes to New Orleans and learns his creator is still alive and wreaking havoc on the good citizens of the Big Easy. He is alive, wreaking havoc and still creating.

Although his methods have advanced since Ducaleon was created, there are still problems emerging with his new creations....deadly problems.

This book had me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last. Another masterpiece by Dean Koontz!

Koontz;s Frankenstein, a different kind of monster

Created: 15/07/10
Dean Koontz is a master at making the bizarre seem all to real, this book is no exception. You thought you knew the story of the Frankenstein monster, didn't you? Well, he has changed over time, still very big, very scary, but no longer a mindless beast, he is more human, well.....not exactly. And he is not the only monster in town.

Can't tell you more, wouldn't want to spoil it for you.

frankenstein by Dean Koontz

I Have read many books by this author and I have enjoyed reading every one of them. I had book two in this series and I wouldn't read it till I had book one, so I bought it and read both books only to fine I needed a book three, I guess it's back to shopping because I have to read the conclusion now. If your looking for a good read that is science fiction but close to reality you should try reading books by this author. You can wait for the movies but it is not the same part of the meaning seems to get lost without the knowledge of what people are thinking and feeling. So I would highly suggest that if your looking for a book that will stir your imagination and keep you on the edge of your seat pick up one by Dean Koontz.
