Product description

Synopsis
In this political memoir, former president George W. Bush reviews his personal and political life through key turning points--including his decision to stop drinking, election night 2000 (with its controversial aftermath), and his relations with Laura and the rest of the Bush dynasty. Of special interest is the account of September 11, 2001 that only he can provide, along with his decisions to invade Afghanistan and then Iraq. Bush's two-term presidency was as filled with history-making events as any that came before him, and it will remain to be seen if his disarmingly folksy and plain-speaking approach will catch the interest and satisfy the needs of historians and the reading public alike.

Publisher's Note
President George W. Bush describes the critical decisions of his presidency and personal life.Decision Points is the extraordinary memoir of America's 43rd president. Shattering the conventions of political autobiography, George W. Bush offers a strikingly candid journey through the defining decisions of his life. In gripping, never-before-heard detail, President Bush brings readers inside the Texas Governor's Mansion on the night of the hotly contested 2000 election; aboard Air Force One on 9/11, in the hours after America's most devastating attack since Pearl Harbor; at the head of the table in the Situation Room in the moments before launching the war in Iraq; and behind the Oval Office desk for his historic and controversial decisions on the financial crisis, Hurricane Katrina, Afghanistan, Iran, and other issues that have shaped the first decade of the 21st century. President Bush writes honestly and directly about his flaws and mistakes, as well as his accomplishments reforming education, treating HIV/AIDS in Africa, and safeguarding the country amid chilling warnings of additional terrorist attacks. He also offers intimate new details on his decision to quit drinking, discovery of faith, and relationship with his family.A groundbreaking new brand of memoir, Decision Points will captivate supporters, surprise critics, and change perspectives on one of the most consequential eras in American history--and the man at the center of events.

"[An] unexpectedly engrossing memoir..."

"[DECISION POINTS] is a book that is part spin, part mea culpa, part family scrapbook, part self-conscious effort to (re)shape his political legacy....[S]ometimes deliberately, sometimes inadvertently [it] gives the reader an uncanny sense of how personality and the fateful interplay of personalities within an administration can affect policies that affect the world."

George W Bush a True Presidential Leader and a Patriot

Created: 23/12/10
" George W Bush Decision Points A True Presidential Leader, Republican, Leader and A Patriot "

This book is long awaited by myself and I’m sure by others as well, who look forward to hearing about one man’s time to take America places where few presidents are willing to go, for fear of approval and political correctness. We are America and time will tell about this president’s long term, POSITIVE effect on this country and the world. Although his decisions may not have been popular, they certainly came from a leader who cared enough to protect and serve the people of the United States of America as well as other countries. Every man has a destiny and a journey to walk through in his life. I’m sure this book will be well-written and very insightful for those who do not understand what it means to give selflessly for the country and to protect the freedom of others. I enjoyed this book because it gave the former President of the United States a chance to tell his story to the world and why he made certain decisions for the betterment of the country. Not everything was the correct decision but with this book the reader gets to see his perspective on issues wide ranging, from the election recount in 2000 to the Iraq War and the War on Terror.

A Must Read Book About Former President George W.Bush

Created: 08/04/11
I wanted to know more about our President who was so controversial during his 2 terms in office. I love the fact that he is comfortable and openly speaks about his faith and religion, sometimes matters like this don't mix with polititcs. I decided to buy it on EBAY because it was a hard to find item used and new was too expensive. It is a long term reading experierence since it is around 400 pages, but is worth the time spent. This book is in his own words not something somebody else wrote. It brings you very up-close and personal with George W. Bush.

The Backstage of A Troublesome Decade

Created: 11/11/10
Writing from the product perspective (not the content), Decision Points - in Kindle version (maybe in hardcover too) - is filled with photos placed according to the story that is being told, and this makes fact recollection much easier to the reader. There are few books around which value photo placement in such way, so one do not have to search the book or elsewhere for "evidence". A great idea.

From the content perspective, the book starts off with a brief and light take on his early days from birth all the way to politics. Although the chapter is called "Quitting", an explicit reference for the long gone and self acknowledged drinking habits, alcohol itself does not - and should not - make the highlights here. Certainly, because it's not the most important thing to talk about. Moreover, if quitting alcohol is considered a first decision point in the whole context, well done, it is a step ahead. From chapter 2 - "Running" - and on, it will be all about politics.

Judging by the pages read so far, Bush truly shows he knows what he was facing during a difficult decade in many levels. A remarkable collection of security threats (proven or not proven to exist), a natural disaster of incredible proportions and the verge of an economic meltdown of unprecedented consequences are too much for one to handle, no matter how prepared or unprepared, well or bad assisted a commander in chief is. While the handling of some or all aspects of these major issues could have been better, as himself acknowledges in the book, decisions and directions were given according to the best available information and common sense at a given time. If results of any given action led to effective success or failure, depending on common understanding or individual views on the subject of choice, is a completely different discussion.

This is an honest account of a person who dealt with some of the most difficult issues in current history, and thank God none of us had to walk in his shoes. Even for a minute.
