Dell 1815dn All-In-One Laser Printer
Created: 05/03/07
I purchased this printer brand new on Ebay. I did extensive research on the capabilities of all available laser printers. Most considerations were given to DUPLEX PRINTING (printing on both sides of a printed page automatically), NETWORK CONNECTIVITY, and TONER COSTS plus the other features that are available out-of-the-box with no other hardware required. You will not need to purchase any other items to get all advertised functionality.
The Dell 1815DN surpassed all expectation. The networking was relatively easy to set-up using a Linksys wireless hub, even my laptop can print wirelessly to the Dell printer. Dell support is responsive, and informative. Yes, I did need to call Dell support for guidance in set-up so that all network functionality was available. Just make sure that you input your printers IP address into the front panel on the printer to save the printers IP address when you turn the printer off and on.
Scan through the network to e-mail or other programs on your computer. You can send scans directly from the printer to others via their email address. Unfortunately, the instruction book doesn’t explain all of the necessary settings clearly. Dell Techs can be helpful and necessary for the initial set-up of this feature rich machine.
Faxing is easy directly from your desktop programs. Using MS Word, choose print to Fax and create cover sheet, input a phone number and hit send. No need to have a printed copy to pass through the printer to fax documents to fax numbers or e-mail recipients.
USB input on the front of the machine was a total surprise! Print directly from a text file on your USB thumb drive, or scan directly to the thumb drive if you like.
The Dell 1815 prints to all types of paper sizes and envelopes. I have also installed the second paper tray to add another paper type and higher paper capacity. The front feed accepts paper as well as envelopes. The Additional drawer was the only accessory I needed to purchase. The included 96mb of memory is more than enough for all of the included features.
With the few short comings like: lack of detailed instructions and sometimes lengthy button pushing on the printer to get desired feature or output it’s all really worth it. Like many new things, there is a learning curve, and it can sometimes take some getting used to the new machine. A back light to the display would be a great. Perhaps this is more printer than many might need; it’s operating costs are far cheaper that the inkjet AIO I got rid of. Go to Dell.com and look for the Dell 1815DN.

Our office favors the Dell 1815dn All-In-One Laser Printer. We can use it to print, scan, copy, and fax, all of which are very important to us. We have had one for over three years now and it's still running like new. This is much better than the Dell 1600 which only lasted about a year. We use it as a copier/printer mostly and we make 1000s of copies per month. The toner is expensive but you can refill yourself for much cheaper. Supplies can be purchased through ebay for less.

Great Printer!!!

This is a complete surpise to me. I bought this used off Craigslist for 100 bucks. Was a great deal, even low on toner, it had just 22k pages printed. The only flaw on this is NO BACKLIGHT on the user display. That is a big deal, as unless you have light shining right on it, you just can't see what you are doing. However, thats doable. It has so many features that only thing it could have, is being color, but then it would be slower. It is a true all in one, the ADF doesn't jam on pages that aren't perfectly smooth, you can refill your toner off Ebay for about 19 bucks(if you are bold enough to try it). It does everything as advertised. Mind you, this is made of the Samsung ML-3050 engine. I thought it would be a Lexmark product, but it isn't. Perhaps, if you buy parts for the Samsung printer, it would be cheaper. I don't know, but I always try to save a buck.
I'd buy another one as a gift for someone. Thanks Mike Dell for keep making damn good products. This is a big printer for serious printing.

Great Printer

I absolutely love my printer! It has great printing abilities. I am an attorney, so I print out a considerable amount on some days. The scanner works great. The only thing that I haven't had an opportunity to tackle is changing the settings for the scanner. I am going to have to pull out the manual for that one! I do not use the fax, but I am very happy with my purchase, thus far!
