CNET Editors' review

Good
  • THE GOOD

Excellent image quality; lots of adjustments options; composite and S-Video ports; USB hub; picture-in-picture window.

  • THE BAD

No dedicated brightness or contrast buttons; onscreen menu is difficult to navigate; base is slightly wobbly.

  • THE BOTTOM LINE

The attractive Dell UltraSharp 2007FP combines superior image quality, a full range of adjustment options, and a fair price. The result is a 20-inch LCD that's hard to beat.

Dell UltraSharp™ 2007FP (Black) 20.1" LCD Monitor

Created: 06/10/06
In a monitor, RESOLUTION is everything. (Well, of course PRICE is everything, too, but forget that for a moment.) This monitor has 1600 by 1200 resolution in 20 inches, which is almost enough. I spend a lot of time whining about how you can't get even better resolution on this size display since it is easily done on laptops, but I guess it isn't the fault of the monitor itself.

I bought several of these to replace the older Dell 20" displays withe the same resolution. I was never happy with the older ones because, for whatever reason, they have these enormous surrounding bezels. The 2007FP has a very tasteful and narrow bezel. Why is this good? Because you can put them next to each other without a big gap. In fact, I made the same discovery that Microsoft did: The optimum is THREE monitors next to each other, becuase that way there is no split going down the middle. I rotated the monitors on their stands by 90 degrees so that I have, in effect, a 3600 by 1600 pixel display. Try that with a single monitor and you'll see how much "everything" PRICE is!

What I like about the 2007FP:
1: The stand is very well engineered. It takes almost no desk space, the mount swivels from horizontal to vertical, the height is adjustable and the monitor stays at the attitude and altitude you put it!
2: The display is bright
3: I like the little buttons on the thin bezel. Easy to use, not obtrusive.
4: I like the USB convenience connections and the fairly-easily-accessed connections.
5: In terms of reliability, I've had no problems in a few months of use except - see below.
6: They're light weight and packed much more conveniently than the ones they're replacing.

What I don't like:
1: They could be a bit smaller, or a bit higher resolution at the same size. I wish someone would give us laptop resolution on a desktop.
2: One of them seems to have developed a yellowing in one corner. Ugly but not a problem. I'll have to return it before the warranty expires. I don't know if this is a common problem - I don't have a big enough statistical sample.
3: They're Dell monitors. Someone should grab their neck and wring it until they just give you the lowest price without wasting time with their absurd categories of customer.

It's a little unfair to give this a "Good" instead of an "Excellent." It's a really nice monitor; I'd prefer to give it a 9 out of 10 rather than a 4 out of five.

Nice monitor that fits where it needs to go.

I purchased this monitor after using two of these in my job. I wanted to get increased resolution and a larger screen than my current eight year old 17" Sony LCD. There was nothing wrong with the Sony but I needed more display area. The key requirement is that it fit into the monitor compartment of my prized 25 year oak roll top computer desk. It fits like a charm. The narrow bezel allows for a compact size and more bag for the buck (size wise). I also like the multiple inputs. I have a home theater setup in my den and can use the s-video and composite inputs for those sources. This is a very versatile monitor.

best monitor ever!!!

Created: 12/12/10
i enjoyed many years from my 2007fp-20.1" monitor.. its went well beyond the 1080i and looks almost like crystal glass.... i have even hooked this monitor to an apple computer and the resolution continued to be astonishing on that unit as well..
these units can be mounted on the wall and support vga/dvi, usb..
these units are heavily sought after...... if the screen ever cracks invest in purchasing a used one .. fixing a broken screen will end up costing as much as a used monitor on ebay....

i would rank this monitor on the same level as the view-sonic and aluminum apple cinema.. its just that sharp!!!!

Works great as a second monitor on my work computer!

Created: 30/06/10
The screen slides down to about an inch and a half above the desk surface, giving a comfortable viewing angle. Also has several video-in options including RCA. I bought it to preview pictures on a larger screen than my camera LCD. It works great, and when I'm not using it with my camera, I use it as a second display on my work computer.

2007FP LCD Monitor

Created: 05/01/07
I decided to buy a flat panel monitor after seeing my friends use them, the newer hard panel ones are really neat compared to the first generations of LCDs. Especially this Dell ultra bright that I purchased on EBay. It's a great piece of equipment and takes up less than a third of the space my old monitor required. It's graphics are sharp clear and bright. I've had it now for a few months and would highly recommend this product to anyone who uses it for office, internet or photography work as I do. I do only a little gaming but it funtions well for that also. The price was right and I now have three Dell flat panel monitors in my home. I really like the extra USB ports on the side of the monitor as well since my new mouse uses a sending device and my camera cords can easily be plugged into them as well.
