Although this dynamic collection isn't a radical departure from its predecessor (Artwork by Jamie Hewlett? Check. A small army of guest stars? Check.), DEMON DAYS injects the party-ready Gorillaz aesthetic with a brooding sensibility that's immediately apparent on the zombie-movie-sampling "Intro." In fact, a morbid sentiment abounds, as evidenced by many songs, including "Last Living Souls" and "Every Planet We Reach Is Dead."Even though Albarn has weighty issues occupying his thoughts, he hasn't forgotten how to boogie, as revealed by the slinky "Kids with Guns" (featuring backing vocals by Neneh Cherry) and the funky "Feel Good Inc." (with De La Soul), which sounds like the slacker cousin of Outkast's "Hey Ya!" The ominous "November Has Come" (featuring MF Doom) and the bizarre "Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head" (with a spoken-word performance by actor Dennis Hopper) round out this eclectic pop/rock/hip-hop offering, which equals, if not exceeds, the first Gorillaz disc.

Editorial Reviews
With Gorillaz enlisting the underground-infamous Danger Mouse as producer this time, the sound is more psychedeli-danceable than ever.

Falls Short Of Greatness

Created: 31/03/06
This followup to the Gorillaz first album, unfortunatly is a disappointed when compared to the greatness of Gorillaz (2001). Okay, there are some great songs (Feel Good Inc. & Dare); unfortunately the rest seems like filler.
Listen to these songs:
1. Dirty Harry
2. Feel Good Inc.
3. All Alone
4. White Light
5. Dare
And if you're in a crazy mood: Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head
It's a waste of time listening to the rest (hey, I'm as disappointed as you).
I expected much more because I enjoyed the first album so much. But hey, what're ya gonna do?

Gorillaz review by jamieday83

I absolutely love this album, and I loved the first album as well. But this one's better. I suspect those that panned it haven't given it enough time yet. Sure there's one or two tracks that straight up suck that you have to skip every time (the last two tracks for example), but not as many as there were from the first album! Can any of you really say you like the ENTIRE first album? Heck no! At least 1/3 of that album is unlistenable.

Other than the last two tracks and "White Light", I love every song on this album. I even love the kind of sissy-techno song "Dare"- it's a great song to listen to on headphones while jogging! Definitely gets you moving. I suppose "Green World", "November has come", and "All Alone" would have to be my favorite tracks, but the entire album is fantastic. Don't listen to the nay-sayers, you really need to give this album a chance.

By the way, my theory is that "Fire coming out of monkey's head" is about September 11th. Give it a listen and see if you agree.

The Best of Many Worlds

Created: 17/10/06
I truly like every single song on this cd, and the same is true for thier 2001 self-titled release. It contains a well-blended and idiosyncratic range of musical styles: pop, rock, techno, rap, gospel, and spoken word.

I have an ecclectic sense of taste and great appreciation for any innovative, provocative, and creative endeavor...whether that be science, philosophy, art, poetry, or music does not matter. And that's exactly what the Demon Days cd is, an intelligent and enjoyable aggregate of word, sound, and vision.

If you are the type who has a limited range of interests then this may not be the music for you. However, if you consider yourself to have an independent and curious personality which enjoys experiencing the new and unpredictable, Gorillaz will take for a uniquely circuitous ride -- but only if you let them.

GOOD JOB GORILLAZ!

Created: 30/03/06
I really like this album, even though I am not as big fan of rap. My favourite songs are "We are the last living souls" and of course "Fire is coming out of the monkey's head". Songs are full of sence and thoughts. I like it a lot!

I liked that the case and cover were like new. Very few scuff marks on CD or cover. Enjoyed the songs feel good inc. and dare. Still need to get use to other songs I have not heard before.
