Album Notes
Sweet: Andy Scott (vocals, guitars, synthesizer); Steve Priest (vocals, bass); Mick Tucker (vocals, drums, timpani, tubular bells, gong); Brian Connolly (vocals).Producers: Phil Wainman, Mike Chapman, Sweet, Nicky Chinn.Recorded at Audio International Studios, London, except "Fox On The Run" recorded at Kingsway Studio, London.Sweet originally began as a pre-packaged pop outfit for the producers/songwriters Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman. By combining the crunch of hard rock with the hooks of bubblegum pop, the pair provided Sweet with its first handful of mindlessly effective hits in the early glam soaked '70s, notably "Little Willy," "Blockbuster," "Wig Wam Bam," and "Ball Room Blitz." Underneath this teen-pop glitz however, a real rock and roll band was smoldering. Determined to make its own statement and get out from under the Chinn-Chapman control center, the band took a leap of faith and cut DESOLATION BOULEVARD completely on its own. What is surprising is not so much the band's desire for independence but that Sweet succeeded on all fronts with this release. Keeping the power hooks intact, the band displays its own knack for songwriting. DESOLATION BOULEVARD contains the band's biggest single, "Fox on the Run," a telling rocker featuring the band's multi-octave vocals. The other highlight on the album is the softer "The 6-Teens," which harkens back to the band's pop formula with considerably more texture than the their earlier hits.

MUST Have Heavy Metal Staple, NOT Glam-Pop!!!

Created: 22/06/07
This album is right up there with Dio's HOLY DIVER, KISS ALIVE!, AC/DC's BACK IN BLACK, and Guns N' Roses' APETTITE FOR DESTRUCTION on my list of greatest METAL albums of ALL time! This album inspired numerous artists who came after. Nearly every song, if not ALL of them, from this album have been covered by a variety of artists. Especially "Set Me Free" and "Ballroom Blitz".

While SWEET was a Glam band who did play mostly Pop-ish classic rock, they graduated with this album. Don't get me wrong, music from their previous albums rocked, too. This album is much different. Recording equipement and techniques went through a dramatic change late 60's early 70's. This album took FULL advantage of those changes. This album was originally released in early 1970's. The cd was a re-issue in the 90's.

Most people are going to tell you about "Ballroom Blitz" or "Fox On The Run", when they talk about this album. Both are great songs and smash hits. EVERY song on this album is in the classic HEAVY METAL style. The guitarwork and techniques are A+ and have been an inspiration to many. The overall sound is full and well-rounded. This is top-notch and well produced. If you are a KISS fan you will notice the parallel between this album and the KISS sound of the same time period. "Set Me Free" will remind you of Iron Maiden (Iron Maiden reminds ME of this!). In fact, SAMSON, Bruce Dickinson's original band would've been around the same music scene as SWEET in England during this time period. "No You Don't" and "Into The Night" are both exceptional heavy metal classics. If you want to learn more about the progression of heavy metal music, this album is part of that progression. You don't have to worry. You can put the cd on, listen to the whole thing, and not be disappointed.

Desolation Boulevard is SWEET

My childhood memory of walking down the street in Downtown Reno, and going by a record store with a display of this album cover, and also seeing someone walking out of the store with a brand new copy of this album, I HAD to have it !!! It had the hit single "Ballroom Blitz" and the new single "Fox On The Run" had just came out. After I got home from vacation, I purchased my copy, and to this day, its one of my top favorite album that is in the CD player very often. I have had every format of this album that has been made... CD, cassette, vinyl and even on 8 track !!! After my original copy of the CD was stolen, I was determined to get another one, and bless the person who had a copy to sell. If you only know the 2 hit singles from this album, may I suggest you listen to the whole thing... you'll love it, and if not ? I'll buy it from you. Enjoy !!! YEA.... Its a Ballroom Blitz !!!

Desolation Boulevard - Sweet (CD 1996)

I have the vinyl copy of this music, but my turntable quit a long time ago. It had been many years since I had heard this album. It was refreshing to go back in time and hear again some of the favorite songs from my youth. The lyrics do nothing for me, but I can appreciate the talent on the drums, guitar, and vocals. I especially liked listening to "Set Me Free" and "Into the Night" for their up tempo hard rockin' sound.

Best known for the song Ballroom Blitz. Even by todays standards this band's sound stands tall. I rocked this album to oblivion during my high school years... Treat yourself to this CD and you wont be dissapointed... This is a hard rock record meant to be played LOUD. Enjoy (1974,75,76)
