Digging to China

Created: 10/03/07
I happened to catch the remainder of Digging To China on IFC a while back. A combination of nostalgic allure and partial accomplishment could be attributed as the key motivation for the purchase.
Kevin Bacon has always struck me as an actor who has not received adequate accolades for his abilities. His performance in THE WOODSMAN is a prime example of this phenomenon, which extends to landslides of others that I will reluctantly exclude.
In Digging To China, Bacon plays a mentally challenged individual who befriends a young girl, played by the now stunning Evan Rachel Wood (Thirteen, Upside of Anger, Down in the Valley). I'll will leave the synopsis to the viewer.
The role is spectacular. Honesty and originality radiate from Bacon. Although the storyline can occasionally approach silliness, his performance alone easily carries the film. The film manages to stir up childhood familiarity.
If you are on the prowl for a compassionate film, Digging To China must be unsurfaced.
