BUY THIS FOR THE GAMEPLAY!!! YOU HAVE NO IDEA!

Ok, generally you start off with basics in this game. It's a "Breeding" game, if you happen to know what that genre is. It's when you raise something, which has a lifespan, and take care of it like you would a pet in the real world.
So yeah it's a story about monsters and 'saving the world', but what game isn't?!
the General Mass Appeal to this game for me and all of my friends who play this is the PvP versus option of the game...
Once you get good at the game and are capable of going all out and getting max stats(9999-hp/mp;999-everything else) and completing the "techniques" your monster can learn in the game, this is generally a very unique and high end fighting game.
For a breeding game, where you usually kill your opponents with stronger techniques, this one does not rely entirely on that.
The battle scenes and the fights inside the storyline of the game is not even close to what you can do in the PvP aspects of the game.
Me and my bro collected the entire Ultimate-Level Lineup in the game and to tell you the truth, it's better than any other breeding game that has yet to have ever been created since the beginning of PvP(player vs player) video games.
Dragon Quest, Monster Rancher, Pokemon, Etc. all of these are very simplified GAMEPLAYS in their PvP(player versus player) modes, compared to Digimon World!!!
Generally people GIVE up on this game because they can't stand the "feeding","Pooping","Scolding","dying","training", etc. aspects of the game. But if you're actually not lazy enough to find out how to BEAT the game and make things like raising stats EASY!! then you will look back on all the minor "annoyances" of this game and think on how easy that portion of the game actually is and the payoff is fighting with awesome monsters and awesome fighting methods!!!
Do you like Button-bashing? Do you like coming up with complex tactics in an upcoming fight? Do you like making a character and powering it up and betting it against other people's creations in the Battlefield? Do you like unpredictable and reflex-reliant gameplay outcomes in your player versus player modes?!
Well if the answer is yes to these questions, then this game will not dissappoint you! ever!!! Me and my bro still consider this as the BEST IN THE ENTIRE DIGIMON series games, and so do some of my friends.
If you're a nitpicky gamer who just likes a game for the sheer looks and not the difficulty in understanding the complex powerplay styles of a game, then this game is NOT for you. But if you like that sort of thing, this game is definitely...
"A MUST FOR YOU COLLECTION!" that's all and i hope they make a sequel that reflects the gameplay of this version someday in teh future; we're still waiting on it.(which is probably unlikely because of how digimon is franchised in present)
But none the less, this is a great breeder game! buy it!

I love this game. It is the most interactive monster raising game. Monster rancher happens to be my favorite series for raising creatures, but you cant go on awesome adventures like you can in this game. You also get to build a city by finding digimon and battling them most of the time. After you win a fight your character will ask the digimon if they want to come to the city. Some won't come till you have done certain things. But what I really enjoy most about this game is the way you raise your digimon effects how they digivolve. You can make them skinny, fat, in the middle, focus on few parameters or all of them. The way you feed them, train them, discipline them, praise them, let them use the restroom, make sure they don't get hurt or sick or to tired, it all effects the digivolution. I highly suggest this game to anyone who plays monster rancher or a digimon game and never played this one.

If your a fan of Digimon or raising-genre games, this is perfect for you.
You start in File city after being sucked into your digivice and you have your digimon of either Agumon (a dinosaur) or gabuman (a humanoid tiger thing) you train your digimon, feed it, and take it to the lou. Eventually you plan to restore the city to it's previous state by recruiting digimon you find on your journey.
As your digimon grows old it dies, which is sad,but you get a brand new digimon in the prossess, allowing you for new chances for more variety. The graphics are poor for the day and age, although they were top of the line in their time. If your partner poops to much on the ground and not in the toilet, you will have sukamon, who looks like poo, and eats it too. this allows you to clean up your previous mistakes, which would otherwise be left untouched. i love this game and would recommend it to anyone who can pick up a remote and see the tv.

I love this game when i was in middle school. It is just like i remembered it, constantly taking care of your pet and battling other digital monsters to convert them to the city of File. Its such a fun game.

I bought this game to satisfy my urge to play one of my favorite titles I had when I was younger. You do not have to like Digimon to play this game. This is a game similar to the Pokemon game boy versions; you raise a Digimon and fight to save an island. A must own!
