A must have effect for modern rock/metal
Created: 04/02/11
I'll put it simple. If you play guitar you should already know what this thing does. it shifts notes up and down octaves, can "drop tune" your guitar one whole step, and does all kinds of cool modulation and harmony effects. They are fun to play around with and you need one if your going to do stuff similar to the likes of Tom Morello or Korn. The only thing that sucks with these pedals, is that they are NOT true bypass, and that most traditional pedalboards can't power the damned thing unless you use the provided power supply. Not really a problem, just something you should know before you plan to put one on your pedal board.(WHICH YOU SHOULD!!!) anyway thats my take on it. Pick one up, if you can find it, check out one of the sweet chrome special edition ones instead of that god offal red that everyone else has :)

Does it's job, wish it took less board real estate though.

the common problems with octave type pedals is the tracking, from the ever famous Boss OC2, to the expensive stuff like Markbass supersynth.
Digitech Whammy pedal does not have tracking problems! you can play fast 16 note runs and it will track your note and provide the correct pitch, as long as you are not in the "harmony" mode.
now, the harmony mode is a little buggy, but a lot of users actually made of the buggy sounds there.
perhaps, a trivial disadvantage of this pedal is that there only a few genres that could make use of it, while the real disadvantage is that is has a big foot print and difficult to include in your pedal board especially if this only gets 10% usage.
i play bass, and the most use i got out of this pedal is replicating the low B on a 5 string bass, and just for fun, i set it an octave up, turn on the fuzz and wah, then just cop a pentatonic style guitar solo. it entertains and surprises certain audiences, which is always a great filler while waiting for the guitar player to fix a broken string.

this pedal was more fun than i could imagine. the harmony effects could make even my horrible playing sound like a million bucks..well..maybe not quite a million, but at least a few hundred thousand~
set it to dive bomb and it growls and shrieks like nothing on earth matters. and the best part is when your done the guitar your using is still in tune!!
its an extremely fun pedal thats worth having regardless of your skill level.

I bought this pedal (used) on eBay for around 80 dollars so I could play one guitar solo by RATM. For that it does the job perfectly. Set it to two octaves up and play the solo in the fifth fret position. The chorus is not bad on it. It does for me exactly what it needs to.

This pedal is excellent for making your guitar do things you never thought of doing before. Just the sheer amount of new sonic possibilities it offers makes it worth the price tag. Poor tracking in the top register is actually a good thing. Just an octave above your original tone, especially with the harmonizer you can start to hear a dreamlike swirling. The amount of options your given makes it possible to experiment and find new sounds for hours. Add a delay pedal and you've got something truly interesting. Plus who doesn't love a little Tom Morello freakout soloing?
