Dirty Mary Crazy Larry (DVD, 2005)

Love'd this one. Can be had for under $10.00 and has several chase scenes. I have watched this movie several times since I bought it and will continue to do so. Great movie to add to your collection, especially for you Dodge Charger fans. Comparable to Vanishing Point (the original) and Two-Lane Blacktop. I would rate Dirty Mary Crazy Larry as the best of the three with Vanishing Point holding a close second.

A must have for classic muscle car fans!

For those of you who like car chases, pure and simple, packed with real action; then this is movie for you.

There are no special effects, trick photography or "sped-up" film sequences. All the sequences were shot in real time, at speed. What you see is how it actually happened, sometimes at speeds exceeding 100 MPH.

The chemistry between Larry (Peter Fonda), Mary (Susan George) and Deke (Adam Roarke) changes as the film progresses and as the characters evolve within their own relationships with one another. Franklin's (Vic Morrow) obsession to apprehend Larry only increases the tension as the chase continues to what some people say (myself included) is one of the greatest climaxes ever filmed.

Released in 1974, this film has stood the test of time and ranks with such greats as Vanishing Point, Gone In Sixty Seconds (the original) and definitely could be viewed as the raw influence to films that came later, including Cannonball Run, Smokey and The Bandit and The Blues Brothers (the last two having their own fair share of vehicular destruction).

So if you want pure chase, buy this film. The DVD features a new documentary with interviews with John Hough (director), Peter Fonda and Susan George. There are other goodies as well.

The Snowstorm.

I decided to purchase this movie because of the "get away" quality of the theme and the aspects of the cars. Not that I am into vintage muscle cars but today's movies don't really have those type of cars in them. I watched "The Fast & The Furious" and the part of the movie that was the best for me was watching Vin Diesel race the black muscle car which he apparently had in a shed for years. Yes, we have incredible fast, slick vehicles today which have great safety features (my husband keeps reminding me), but for great old days of speed and looks, my vote goes back in time. The movie does have ridiculous, dumber than dumb blond on the part of Dirty Mary. I wanted to reach into the TV set and slap her, plus throwing her out into the road a dozen times. Peter Fonda is Crazy Larry who is incredibly patient, making crazy mistakes everytime he turns around. So does the co-hort which helps him along the way. All in all, none of them are the "sharpest tool in the shed" so to speak, but they have wild fun and crazy speed throughout the movie. Vic Morrow is a rarity to see as he typically plays the Big Fish in a pond of lots of smaller, dummy fish who can't get things right making his ego and his stradegy traits get sharper as the lead law enforcer. For what it is, it's an older, wacked out movie about breaking laws, speeding in cool cars and it is in a class by itself along with all the movies like this of their time.

i like it because its one of the great car chase films of all time...action packed...i first saw this movie when i was about 11 or 12 and have been looking for it on DVD ever since, so when i came across it on ebay money was no object i had to have it...even tho it was a fair price...peter fonda plays larry to perfection as he did with every roll he played in truely one of the great actors of all time...if ur into classic car chase films such as the origonal gone in 60 seconds, vanishing point, and the gum ball rally this is a must have for your collection trust me

This has got to be one of the all time best movies ever made! This movie really puts it all out there on the line and the stunts and camera work are superb! Peter Fonda does most of the actual driving in this one and Susan George was a natural for her part. Adam Rourke is the level headed one and did an outstanding job as well. Aside from the spectacular ending, this film leaves you wondering who really are the "Bad Guys" when all things are considered. The only bad part about this movie is that it ended with no hope for a sequal, but then again, maybe that is what adds to the overall "flavor" that has become almost legendary?
