March or Die

MARCH OR DIE is a neglected military film masterpiece. The final battle sequence, reminiscent of ZULU, is worth the price of the DVD alone. A great performance by Gene Hackman as a self-punishing war-weary commander of a French Legion garrison sent to protect French Archeologists plundering desert tombs. The subtext of amatory manipulation has a desperate existential quality wholly consistent with the bleak desert setting. Only the Legion endures. Eerily topical and worth repeated viewings.

Gene Hackman stars as a French Legionaire Colonel fighting in Algeria in the
early part of the century. Given a group of recruits to man his fort and
accomplish his mission, Hackman is assigned to protect a group of explorers
who are digging for ancient treasures and relics. Problem is the local Tribes
has been banded together by a Moslem leader to prevent the digging in their
lands and to throw the French out of the country. A great movie, highlighted
by a bloody battle at the end.

Domino Principle/March or Die (DVD, 2006)

The Domino Principle is a slightly above average movie overall. It is a far-fetched conspiracy theory story with above average acting.

March or Die is a fairly accurate depiction of life in the French Foreign Legion in general. It is good as a believable dramatization of the Rif Wars in Morocco after World Wat I.

March or Die was a terrific movie if you are of the 'war flick bluff' type like me. A wonderful acting job was done by the whole cast and cinematography was well filmed too. Gene Hackman is great as the commander of a company of French Foreign Legionaires, each one with undesirable past... Drags at times but this is just in setting up the story line. I waited a good while to get a copy of this film on DVD, wished I had got it sooner. Film quality was good and sound too. It's a must War/Action movie fans !

I was in the movie. loved it i did learn that i would not want to be a movie star. most of the "stars" was eather stuck-up or drunk. but there was a couple minutes missed from the movie on the screen. I have purched two other DVD/VHS and the one here was a bit dunker than the on in the VHS. i decoded to buy it so i could send a couple DVD's to my brothers and sisters had not able to watch it. i will get at least 5 more DVD's.
