Nows the Time for Doom 3 !!! Classic Doom fans Read!

I used that heading because its true, Nows the Time for Doom 3 its at a lower price now & the pc specs needed to run it arent high really at all by todays standard.
Minimum as stated on the box are P4 1.5ghz Amd 1500+ 384mb ram.
I recomend not bothering if you dont have a 2ghzCPU 1gigRam 128mbVideo card or better.

I played this on a meager 3ghz(P4) system with 1gb of ram & a 128Geforce 6600 it ran smooth all the time. Thats not a great system on todays standards by any means.
You need windows Xp or 2000 to run the game.
Note: This game doesnt support windows 95,98 or NT & im not sure about Vista.

The game has the ground setting graphics youve heard about. (including in most every review here..)
A good story line & plenty of action. Its a nice & Scary game!
Many people complain about the game being dark & theres a simple solution for that, (heres what i did)
Try pressing Ctrl & alt(~) at the same time to bring up the console then type in these two commands,
    r_gamma 3
    r_brightness 0

This will have a nice brightening effect that wont degrade the graphics in the process.
Note these settings worked for the Resurrection of Evil Doom3 expansion as well.
So that takes away the most common complaint(too dark) people tend to have about Doom 3.
Now the game is still pretty scary but you get to see those great looking monsters that are trying to kill you.
Its good to have a pc there are no console commands for the console(xbox) version of the game.)
If you decide you prefer the game the way it looked originally then you can set the gamma & brightness back to the original setting by using these commands,
    r_gamma 1
    r_brightness 1

If your computer is weak you may want to try this console command.
Try pressing Ctrl & alt(~) at the same time to bring up the console then type in this command,
    seta g_showPlayerShadow "0" <- player shadows off

This may help to get the game running a bit smoother & you will likely not see any difference in the graphics except in the video sequences.
To put it back to the default setting type (in console)
    seta g_showPlayerShadow "1" <- player shadows on

If it still doesnt run good enough you can find many performance commands online, do a internet search for Doom 3 performance or Doom 3 tweaks.

For you Classic Doom fans Try doing a net search for a Mod called "Doom 3 Classic" Its a wonderful (free) remake of the Original Dooms first 20ish levels of "knee deep in the dead" using the Doom 3 engine for graphics!
I used one of the lighting commands listed above on this mod as well.
You'll be surprised at how nice free can be!

Its awsome Thanks to a development team called "Flaming Sheep software Team"
You guys did a fantastic job Thanks!

Note you must have a retail version of Doom 3 to play D3 classic.
This mod makes Doom3 an even better Deal.
DOOM 3 is a bargain at todays prices, as is the Resurrection of Evil the Doom3 expansion.
Both are high quality moderate spec big budget productions!
This beats most si-fi horror movies.
Great graphics, Cool stories with moderate specs & Pricing NOW IS THE TIME FOR DOOM 3 on pc!

I want to thanks all at Id software for thier consistent ground breaking & standard setting in the game industry!

Pick up a copy of Doom 3 if you like si-fi, Horror or FPS! Its a Best Buy Deal!
Thanks & have Fun,if this was any help vote yes.

    Doom 3 (PC Games, 2004)

    Created: 12/08/10
Doom 3 is a science fiction horror video game developed by id Software and published by Activision. An example of the first-person shooter genre, Doom 3 was first released for Microsoft Windows on August 3, 2004.[7] The game was later adapted for Linux, as well as being ported by Aspyr Media for Mac OS X. Developer Vicarious Visions ported the game to the Xbox console, releasing it on April 3, 2005. British developers Splash Damage also assisted in design for the multiplayer elements of the game.[1]

The game is a reboot of the Doom franchise, disregarding the storylines of the previous Doom video games. Doom 3 is set in 2145 on Mars, where a military-industrial conglomerate has set up a scientific research facility to develop fields such as teleportation, biological research and advanced weapons design. However, the teleportation experiments inadvertently open a gateway to Hell, resulting in a catastrophic invasion by demons. The player, an anonymous space marine, must fight through the base and find a way to stop demons from Hell attacking Earth.[8] Doom 3 features an award-winning game engine, id Tech 4, which has since been licensed out to other developers.[9]

    Doom 3

    Created: 02/01/08
Doom 3 was bought cause I used to play the first 2 when I was little....it was a bit surpisly good gameplay...at the same time kinda disappointing..but not enough to destroy my love for ID.

Pros: The graphical quality for when this game came out is amazing....the story is a bit different..sound is quite decent..and monsters each got their strengths and weakness. All the weapons from the classic return...except maybe some of the more powerful ones. Fists, pistol, shotgun, sub-machinegun, plasma rifle, chainsaw, rocket launcher, [grenades, but I dont think that was in the classic?], flashlight, chain-gun, is the weapons to be expected through the game. It does keep you on your toes due to loads of dark areas...makes the flashlight handy.

Cons:Their are some parts in the game where you have to jump over ledges and such..easy to die here...but the most annoying thing in the game...from a guy with 12 years into First Person shooters....is when you get later in the game, they keep spawning behind and in front of you...its not often this is done in games...and it really is annoying to have to keep turning around and shoot..turn around again...ya..not really a big con.

Conclusion:It is a recommended buy for the horror/fps lover or someone who just loves challenges (try nightmare) Enjoy.

Doom 3 In 2008 ,How does it Stack Up With today's FPS?

    Created: 06/04/08
So You've probably heard of Doom, the brutal shoooting game that has spawned tons of contreversy, mostly because of a series of shootings in the Mid 1990's that happened in a school where the gunman put the faces of the people he shot into the game.
then Doom 2 happened, and it continued the well selling franchise in this 2nd installment,it was also brutal, and like the first game you fought Hell's Minions until they could no longer walk.
    Then Finally Doom 3,since Doom 2 however,many shooters such as Timesplitters.Halo,Goldeneye 007,Perfect Dark,Quake,Duke Nukem 3D,and Half-Life,so on and so forth,have come.
now the first thing you'll notice about Doom 3 is the massive impressive Graphics, especailly for this games release date in 2004,while the PS2,Xbox,and Gamecube were still fighting, this game came out and blew out all the graphics for ANY game on the Above systems, however, the gameplay is still largely the same, much improved, but its still almost the Same. So if you hated Doom 1,dont get Doom 3,however games like Half-Life 2,released the same year, reinvented the way shooters were made as a whole, showing off a new{then phenomenal} gaming mechanic which was gravity, suddenly now you can pick up a microwave in-game and hurl it at your enemies, plus a more compelling story, and a bunch of other stand out stuff that an overall much better game, but if you want to see how Doom 3 is,go ahead, play it,its an amazing game and well worth any credit it gets. but compared to Call Of Duty 4,Halo 3,Bioshock,Timeshift,and the numerous other new extrememe FPS titles that have come out especially recently,Doom 3 just dosent make the cut against those, but the good thing is,because it is a 4 year old computer game, the then high system requirments are now almost nothing compared to today's standards, although the game still looks fantastic, which speaks a lot for the engine.

    Amazingly overrated, with sub-par gameplay

    Created: 05/07/08
Yikes. Doom 3 is a one-trick pony. It's dark, you use your flashlight, a monster jumps out, one spawns behind you, etc, etc. You might be scared the first time this happens, but gibe it an hour and the shock will quickly wear off. The levels are all small and cramped because the engine can't handle wide open spaces. There are never more than a few enemies on-screen at once, even in the segment where you fight a "whopping" 3 mancubuses, the framerate grinds nearly to a halt. The game's extravagant, unnecessary lighting and shadow effects are the culprits, and it limits the level design to the point where every level seems the same.
So don't expect the high-speed carnage of the original Doom games, you'll need to go play Serious Sam if you want that, and don't expect anything deep, because Doom 3 is anything but, there isn't even any damage differential for head and limb shots, shoot your enemies anywhere and you'll deal the same amount of damage. Pretty sad, considering that feature has been around since Goldeneye 007 on the N64.
Doom 3 is a dull affair, it's one of those games where it starts off slow, and you keep asking yourself, "it's going to get better, right?" but it never does. The story is absurd, and the fact that Carmack and Co. treat it with such seriousness makes it corny in a very un-endearing way, they discard the whole Duke-Nukem-style over-the-top fun of the original Dooms in favor of some humorless, brain-dead jarhead army sterotype stuff, and much like a Katie Holmes movie, it's just painful to see.
The bottom line is that there are tons of FPS and horror games that are better in every way to Doom 3. With a different title, less advertising money, and less schmoozing of reviewers (you can do a google search if you don't believe me), I suspect Doom 3 would have been rightly blasted by the press and quickly forgotten. If you're a novice FPS player, you might like this one, but the puddle-deep gameplay and small, repetitive levels don't come close to comparing to classics like Serious Sam, Crysis, Resident Evil, Half-life, and Halo.
