Album Notes
Collective Soul: Ed Roland (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Ross Childress (guitar, programming); Dean Roland (guitar); Will Turpin (bass, percussion); Shane Evans (drums, percussion, programming).Additional personnel: Jun-Ching Lin, Christopher Pulgram (violin); Paul Murphy (viola); Danile O. Laufer (cello).Engineers include: Chris Carrol, Jason Elgin, Greg Archilla.Recorded at Criteria Studios, Miami, Florida & Tree Studios, Atlanta, Georgia.DOSAGE, an infectious slab of modern rock, is the fourth album from the Georgia-based quintet. It is the group's effective use of melodic hooks that makes this record work. Those same hooks garnered the group mega-success in the grunge-dominated mid- '90s.DOSAGE is the brainchild of Ed Roland (vocals, keyboards, guitar, production). He shows his vocal range on the Peter Gabriel-like "Tremble For My Beloved," and the much smoother ballad "Needs." "No More No Less" is powered by an excellent piano-based arrangement, while "Dandy Life" features the British-sounding vocals of guitarist Ross Childress. "Run," the album's first single (also featured in the film Varsity Blues,) is a pop hit with acoustic guitar and strings over a drum loop. DOSAGE is another winner from this hard-working, earnest-but-not-pretentious band.

Another very solid album.

Created: 12/09/07
Most bands start to get in a rut somewhat after four major albums, but not these guys. This is just as good as anything they've ever done. "Heavy" and "Run" are the big hits from this album, and they are very cool, but just like their other albums, the hits aren't necessarily the best songs on the album. I find that on all their albums, most of the songs are very good and there aren't too many that stand above others. (which is perhaps the biggest reason I'm deducting a point from it) I like all the songs on this one equally and there is even a hidden bonus track a couple of minutes after the last track. This is another impressive album in the career of a very impressive band and belongs in the collection of any fan of hard rockin' music.
