A Superbly Enhanced Conversion!
Created: 29/04/10
Anyone from the 80's that ventured into an arcade would no doubt have seen Double Dragon. It was a ground breaking game in its time and got a lot of kids and adults hooked, my friends and myself included!
The original Arcade holds dear to me and normally I'd say leave it alone as I'm sure many would agree its great as it is.. slow down included!
But i was pleasantly surprised when I read about this Game Boy Advance conversion and more surprised that it was rated as one of the best home conversions made.
It offers redrawn visuals that are more detailed yet retain the look and feel of the original, sounds have beefed up but again does the original proud. It also includes some new moves and levels as well as a two player link up option (two copies needed). As well as this it has different play modes where you can play one player as Billy or one player as both Billy and Jimmy and also a Survival mode!
This a respectful update, you can tell the people who worked on it must have been fans!
I recommend this game with 100% confidence.. be you a fan of the original or a newcomer.
Its worth noting that this only came out in Japan and USA but does run on UK GBA's as there is no region lockout on the console.
Enjoy!

Very Nostalgic Beat-em-up!
Created: 24/03/10
If you miss the old arcade action of the 80's beat-em-ups, this is one of the definitive titles. A hybrid of past Double Dragon games, it showcases the style of the original arcade graphics that are better than the NES ports, the more improved fighting system of the later Double Dragon ports, and an increased amount of moves available during different character actions such as standing/crouching/full mount attacks, the usual weapons, etc.
This is a very good tribute/remake of the most memorable action titles of the NES/SNES eras.

Double Dragon Advance (Game Boy Advance)
Created: 03/09/06
After purchasing Double Dragon Advance for Game Boy Advance, I knew right away that I'd be in for a treat. The game, just like it's original arcade predecessor, is a side-scrolling beat-em-up, where you start off duking it out with baddies left and right through seven or eight stages.
Graphically, DDA isn't anything special as it almost exactly replicates the original--which came out c. 1987. But still, it animates nicely and there are more moves that you'll be able to pull than in either Final Fight of Streets of Rage.
The sound department in DDA isn't exactly the best you'll hear either. I'd rate it average at best. But then again, listening to the score isn't why we play these types of games to begin with.
Overall, I found DDA for the GBA to be a fun gaming experience. And even though some may have felt that the length of the game was a tad short, it really isn't. I also happen to own Final Fight, a similar type of game on GBA, which only takes about half as long to complete. And of those two, DDA is easily better.

I'm not a big fan of most of Atlus' catalog, but they have a winner with this one! This game not only improves upon the original, but in doing so, it captures the same feelings of excitement I had when I first played this game in arcades and on my NES.
The graphics are excellent. There are weapons aplenty. The music is great. The features are many. Granted, the game is short, but whether you are a longtime fan of the franchise or a newcomer, Double Dragon Advance is worth the ride.
