It has already been 50 years since the world of music lost one of its greatest and most gifted artists. February 3rd, 1959 has been called "The Day The Music Died", because it was on this date that a plane crash in Clear Lake , Iowa claimed the life of Buddy Holly. While he may be gone from us, his musical legacy continues to inspire many people. To honor the 50th anniversary of his untimely passing, a 2-disc CD set entitled "Down The Line: Rarities" clearly shows why this musical troubador from Lubbock, Texas was such a gifted genius, who crafted a unique style that no other performer has ever came close to equalizing. Containg 59 tracks on 2 discs, this selection of recordings is a loving tribute to a man who would have gone a long way in music, but who provided a lot of wonderful moments. Disc 1 contains 28 songs; the first half is entitled "Earliest Bloomings" with all songs undubbed, including Holly's very first recording of "My Two-Timin' Woman" from 1949 when he was only 13! The second half is "The Garage Tapes" of Buddy and the Crickets. These selections illustrate the group's early years, as they were perfecting their sound. Disc 2 features 31 tracks; 15 of these songs are alternate undubbed takes of some of the songs recorded during 1957, with the remainder of the disc containing the famous 'Apartment Tapes', recorded during the last 2 months of Buddy's life. Also included is a 28-page booklet with liner notes annotated by Bill Dahl. Altogether, this remarkable CD is a special look at one special talent. For Holly fans, this long-awaited collection just may be the ultimate excuse to rave on!

I decided to buy this particular set of Buddy Holly CDs because the tracks are rare, undubbed and are the earliest of his recordings. Some of these tracks are previously unreleased. It's a chance to hear Buddy in his earliest stages of popularity. For people who remember what Buddy sounded like in the late '50s, this is a chance to hear the first "blooming" of Buddy again. If they love Buddy music, younger people who didn't hear Buddy when he was alive, may like this eye-opening CD set. For those of us who loved Buddy's music when it first came out in the late '50s, this is a chance to re-live those years. It's a very special CD set for teens of the late '50s.

Charles "Buddy" Holley music is great starting when he was 13 and all the way up to his death in 1959. I never heard anything he recorded or in concert I didn't absolutely love. Always a class act and glad these recording finally came out to help understand Down The Line!!!!!!

What can there be said about a Buddy Holly cd.
Real must for Bu8ddy fans.
Contains all the original hits from before the time Buddy became famous.
Real find.
