Product Information
Puzzle action game from Nintendo, starring the company's main mascot. In Dr. Mario, players rotate "pill" pieces as they fall, attempting to clear their screen without spilling over the top. Each stage has a specific number of viruses that must be eliminated instead of simply playing until you die. Each falling block is composed of two colored pieces, and lining up four or more of the same color (either horizontally or vertically) will zap them from your screen. The idea, of course, is to try and make sure you take one of those ugly virus blobs with you as you stack the colors. Once all the viruses have been cleared, players move on to the next stage -- featuring more viruses and faster pieces. Needless to say, the gameplay can get rather frantic in a hurry, especially in the series' staple multiplayer modes.

Hats off to Dr. Mario

Created: 03/04/06
Even though Mario spent most of his time dealing with plumbing problems and saving the princess, he somehow managed to get his degree in medicine. Your task....help destroy the viruses. Most Tetris players may find it similar to it. Dr. Mario is extremely similar to Tetris II.

Gameplay: 10/10
Dr. Mario is completely addictive! If you love the Tetris series, no doubt you'll be hooked in minutes.

Graphics: 7.5/10
There are three different background patterns depending on the speed setting that you chose. Though nothing too fancy, there are some fun things.

Sound: 6/10
Besides a few choices of music, the sound is what one would expect from a NES game. Some tunes manage to be catchy, but get stuck in your head after a while.

Overall: 9/10
A great game whether playing alone or with an opponent. However, if puzzle games don’t appeal to you, it's most likely you're not going to like this game.

I am starting to HATE this game!

Created: 24/08/08
Why am I starting to HATE this game?

1.) No matter how high a score I can get, the wife keeps beating it. She just
scored a mind-boggling 134,000+ points at level 20, and I can't even come close.

2.) The tips of my thumbs are starting to get sore from trying.

3.) Once you start playing this game and really get into it, it is hard to stop.

4.) I'm sick of it constantly screwing me over when the pill bottle fills up.
Clearly, it likes my wife much better since it always gives her the right pills
to use when the bottle is full to the top. This game clearly hates me!

For being a simple game, it is quite well done, and can keep you glued to
it for quite a long time; especially if competing with another player.
While maybe not one of my personal favorites, there is good reason for
Dr. Mario being among the top-rated games available for the NES.

Dr. Mario (Famicom)

Created: 08/04/08
This game is much like Tetris, but with a twist. This twist makes this particular game more difficult. This however does not make the game less fun.

I purchased this particular title for vintage gaming purposes, and it served those purposes well. It is a fun game that brings the participant back to the simpler, fun gaming times of the early Nineties.

I chose the Famicom platform simply because I have always been a fan of everything Japanese. So instead of choosing the regular Nintendo U.S. version I went about choosing Japanese titles.

A good title in a sea of emerging puzzle games

Created: 04/07/08
In early 90s there were a great deal of puzzle games being released. Dr. Mario featured an empty bottle with "viruses" you had to cure through connecting three pills of the same color on top of it - thus destroying it.

The game was fairly good, despite the barrage of similar titles being released by nintendo at the time including Yoshi's Cookie and Wario's Woods (the last NES licensensed title if I am not mistaken.)

Overall the game still maintains its fairly high level of addicting gameplay and here's a little bit of cool trivia, the game can be seen played by a child in the ill-fated horror film "Dr. Giggles."
