No Young Frankenstein--But Bloody Funny!
Created: 15/12/09
This is a wonderful parody of the most famous Dracula films. It may not be of the classic one-of-the-funniest-films-ever-made status that is so well earned by Young Frankenstein, but it is a film you should enjoy time and time again. Leslie Nielson makes a marvelous Dracula and Peter MacNichol is inspired as the insane insect-gulping Renfield. In one of the best moments in the film, MacNichol snatches insects out of the air and off the ground as an incredulous Harvey Korman, as Dr. Seward, slowly catches on. Scenes that are authentic to the 1931 original, such as the usherette at the opera, are hysterical--and may not be fully appreciated if one has not recently viewed the original film. Brooks himself is funny as Van Helsing and Steven Weber is very funny as Jonathan Harker--who is visibly dismayed as the women in his life make the transition from civilized British damsels to sexy, passion-filled Vamps. Finally, the women in this film are sexy. Although the scene only last a minute, Dracula's ample-breasted brides in Transylvania ooze sensuality as they attempt to lunch on the unsuspecting Renfield: You may never think of polishing furniture the same way again. And Lysette Anthony gives simply one of the sexiest performances I've ever seen as Lucy, both before and after she is victimized by Dracula. All in all, a highly enjoyable, and actually fairly effective rendition of the Dracula legend in stupendous color. This film has been under-rated: don't deny yourself a very good time if you are a Brooks fan or a Vampire fan.

"love, hate, sensuality, and unbridled passion"+ laughs

God help me, but I do love Mel Brooks' movies. I love the sight gags, the one-liners, the play-on-words, and the fun he pokes at "serious" movies. Watching a Mel Brooks film has pulled me out of countless bad days, and sent me to bed with a smile on my face. "Dracula - Dead and Loving It" did not fail in that regard:
Count Dracula - "Children of the night...what a mess they make."
Thomas Renfield - "My God, what ARE you doing to the furniture?! I'll have you know that's my knee you're straddling! This is wrong, do you hear me, WRONG! .....Wrong me! Wrong me! Wrong my brains out! Two voluptuous women- grinding, heaving! It's hard to describe it...have you ever been to Paris?"
Doctor Seward - "Give him an enema...it will give him a feeling of accomplishment."
Count Dracula - "They had it coming!"
Lucy Westenra - "Let me show you the deep, raw passion of unbridled sexual frenzy."
Jonathan Harker - "But Lucy...I'm British!"
Lucy Westenra- "So are these!"
Professor Van Helsing - "Hit her again, she's almost dead!"
Jonathan Harker - "She's dead enough! So much blood!"
Professor Van Helsing - "We should have put newspapers down. I have been to many, many stakings. You have to know where to stand! You know, everything in life is location, location, location."
Mina Seward - "No hickies!"
And I am still waiting for Mel to release History of the World Part 2, because I really want to see "Hitler on Ice" and "Jews in Space!"

Typical Mel Brooks/ Harvey Korman fun in a movie. All the cast are hilarious and turns a Dracula story into a great satire. Each plays his or her part to the hilt and the Dracula genera will never be the same. I did a great deal of laughing during this movie. Fun to just while the day away with.

This movie is classic Mel Brooks from beginning to end. Leslie Nielson is as funny as ever and his timing is perfect. Movie will keep you in stitches from the start. Not recommmended for teenagers because of adult content but adults willl find it extremely funny.
