    Movie synopsis

Based on the novel by Stephen King, Lawrence Kasdan's DREAMCATCHER follows four friends who receive psychic powers as children when they aid and befriend a mentally retarded boy named Duddits. As adults, Jonesy (Damian Lewis), Henry (Thomas Jane), Beaver (Jason Lee), and Pete (Timothy Olyphant), reunite every winter at a cabin deep in the Maine woods to hunt, drink, and celebrate the bond they share with Duddits (Donnie Wahlberg) and each other. However, this year their wilderness reunion is marred by disturbing incidents which begin with the discovery of a lost, sick hunter and a frozen figure in the middle of a remote road. As events escalate and horrific creatures emerge from unsightly spaces, heavily armed government operatives, led by the imposing Colonel Curtis (Morgan Freeman), arrive in the area, and soon the situation becomes an all-out battle for the fate of humanity.A crazy-quilt combination of horror, thriller, sci-fi, drama, and action genres, DREAMCATCHER features aspects of other King screen adaptations such as STAND BY ME, IT, and THE TOMMYKNOCKERS, along with films such as THE THING and SIGNS. Seemingly disparate elements that filter into this giddily strange story include creeping red mold, fatal bowel movements, deadly worms with needlelike teeth, an imaginary space called the "memory warehouse," a deranged military officer, and an ailing man obsessed with Scooby-Doo. Director/screenwriter Kasdan, along with veteran screenwriter William Goldman, revel in the absurdity of the tale, crafting an often chilling and sometimes funny film that delights in its own thoroughly entertaining outrageousness.

Confusing If You Haven't Read The Book

    Created: 15/03/07
Dreamcatcher is a strange, far-fetched movie that will leave you guessing until the end. It's a sci-fi, action, horror all in one. It's entertaining, but people I know who haven't read the book, really don't like this movie too much. I've read the book and I think the movie is decent, but I understand what others are going through. Things are happening for a reason, and those reasons are laid out in the novel. But when you watch the movie and don't understand why Beaver just has to have that stupid toothpick on the floor in the bathroom, it's understandable to think that this movie is kind of dumb. But in the book, you learn that Beaver has a toothpick thing. He has to have a toothpick in his mouth at all times, it's like his drug. Another thing that makes more sense after reading the book is when Jonesy is inside looking out of his body, but Mr. Grey is in control. When Jonesy takes all the paperwork about Duddits and puts it into storage, he's hiding it from Mr. Grey. It makes more sense when you read the book, but I can see where it's confusing if you haven't.

All in all, Dreamcatcher is a decent movie. I thought it was close to the book, but I recommend reading the book as well. It won't be confusing at all if you've read the book, but that's part of the fun of watching the movie. Not knowing what is going to happen makes it more fun to watch. This movie is a little bizarre with people crapping out aliens (I'd never seen that before in any movie, odd but original), but that strangeness is part of the story that was invented by Stephen King. He truly has a strange imagination. I wish I had the imagination he does. And the bank account that goes with it.

    Typical king fare!

The biggest beef i have with stephen king is that most of his movies start out strong and end weak!, This is no exception, I wish he would follow thru more often?, His best films are his non-horror endeavors i.e., Misery, Delores claiborne, Shawshank redemption, etc...., He should look back at his earlier film work i.e. Carrie, Cujo, The Dead Zone, these were Excellent!!!

    Dreamcatcher- Morgan Freeman

Good acting. This is a science fiction story about a group of young men and one out-of-space being. It's a nice movie, just not what I expected from Morgan Freeman.

Good movie I had seen it before but still enjoyed watching it a second time. The "R" rating is for violance and gore, plenty of that but not constant. If you like Stephen King you will love this movie.
