    Synopsis
Another collection by bestselling satiric essayist David Sedaris, author of NAKED and ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY and frequent contributor to the public radio show THIS AMERICAN LIFE. Some of the essays are in the laugh-out-loud vein to which Sedaris fans are accustomed, including an over-the-top look at Dutch Christmas traditions, and Sedaris's encounter with some lost tourists as he is drowning a mouse. But many of the works provided here, while still touched with dry humor, are more poignant pieces about his eccentric, troubled family, including observations on his mother's alcoholism, his father's inability to talk directly to Sedaris about Sedaris's homosexuality, and his sister Lisa's resentment of his relentless mining of their shared past in his essays. As always, Sedaris manages to seek out the bizarre in daily life, whether he is reminiscing about the past or musing about the present.

Dress Your Family In Corduroy And Denim

    Created: 06/07/06
So you thought that you family was a bit odd... Sedaris keeps his prose as sharp as his observations as he describes his distinctly nonfunctional family. A collection, links between stories are not always there. One just has to accept it, just as one accepts what he says about this family and lover as accurate and faithful to the character. He has enough sibling stories for many more books. Felt a bit guitly laughing at some spots, but enjoyed Sedaris immensely. Definately Sedaris at his best.

Saw this one at the middle school Book Fair!

    Created: 06/11/08
If you've never caught David Sedaris on NPR, or listened an audio recording read by the author -YOU MUST! It is impossible afterward to read Sedaris's work without hearing his voice. I was a little taken aback, however, when I saw this title at the Book Fair at the middle school where I teach 8th grade. You must know how the nude Barbie on the front cover catches the eye... can't believe no one complained.
Sedaris never holds back when examining -for his reader's amusement- the development of his understanding of society, his own sexuality, and especially family (if 'family' can in fact BE understood.) The narratives are unflinching, yet somehow he avoids gratuitousness ...is that even a word? Hilarious, and comforting at once.
Sedaris reminds us to appreciate the FUN in dysfunction.

    The best!

Hands down, the funniest book I have ever read. Reviews led me to believe NAKED was Mr. Sedaris's best work to date, and while NAKED was really, really good, DRESS YOUR FAMILY wins the blue-ribbon.
