    Product Information
You are Tanner, a former racecar driver-turned-cop. Because of your past as a racer, you are sent on an undercover mission as a wheelman for hire in order to investigate the Castaldi crime family. The investigation will take you to Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, but before you can get these cities, you must take a driving test and prove that you have the skills to be a wheelman. After passing the test, tackle the missions of the story mode, which has over 40 missions that involve picking up and dropping off items or pursuing and disabling other cars. One of the major obstacles to completing your goals is the cops; they don't know that you are undercover, and letting you pass would blow your cover. If being chased around keeps giving you fits, use the free-ride mode and explore any of the cities at your own pace. With Driver, you are the wheelman.

    fantastic car game, very original

    Created: 31/10/06
If you love driving games, Atari's "Driver" is a must buy! "Driver" has lots of practice games, an engaging and engrossing storyline, mission-based gameplay, and a really COOL "Director Mode" to coordinate, save, and replay the most thrilling car chases. The replays are at different angles, you can choose from three different camera modes and all are really a great bonus! You play the role of Tanner, a criminal underworld getaway driver (and undercover cop) for hire. This game holds over 40 different missions with increasing difficulty. You're required to complete a wide variety of tasks such as escaping police pursuit, making deliveries, and chasing insubordinate employees in the "Undercover" main mode of play. You are tested on driving skills, interviewed and put up in seedy motel rooms. You get messages on your hotel answering machine for different missions you must accomplish. Nice maps and two different indicators alert you to "damage" of your vehicle and "felony" alerts. Gameplay takes place across four beautiful U.S. cities--Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Miami. You can spin out, use a handbrake, complete backward 180s,360s, burnouts, power slide turning plus a whole lot more. Lots of addictive minigames, from cop pursuits to metal-crunching collisions, are all included making Driver a fun, challenging and never the "same game twice" replay value!

One of the best driving games!

    Created: 19/12/07
I bought this game around the time it came out, and I have liked it ever since. I'll admit, I don't like it for the story mode. I haven't even beaten the story mode! But what I do like is the take a drive part of the game. It's you, the roads, other cars, and the cops. It's fun putting this game in my old PS1 just to drive around and see if I can get away from the cops before my car gets totaled! There aren't many other games like it! In how many games do you get to take a muscle car out to terrorize the streets? Not many. The cops only make it more fun and interesting! They ram you, they try to turn you around, they setup road blocks, etc. If you're a good driver, you can have a lot of fun getting away from the cops. It isn't easy, though, and damage can add up quickly! I'd stay off the highways if I were you!

In the take a ride mode, there is practically unlimited freedom. You can go wherever you want in the large cities. You can duck away from the cops in parking garages, you can hide out in people's garages, get lots of air jumping bridges or in San Fransisco, etc., etc., etc. There's just so much to do.

And if you're not a great wheel man (yet), there are cheat codes you can enter that make you invincible and so on. The only other game like this would be Driver 2, which is better yet (because you can get out of your car and take a different one when the heat is coming down on you too hard). But Driver 2 aside, this game is just about as fun. I could easily spend hours playing it to this day, after owning it for all of these years. Heck, maybe someday I'll actually finish the story mode, LOL. But the take a drive mode did it for me. That was just plain fun! Exploring the cities while being chased by the cops... that's fun stuff. If you wanted, you could just drive slow and never get caught, but what fun would that be?

I give this game a 5 out of 5. It is definitely one of my favorite Playstation games, and is surly one of the games I have played the most! Lots and lots of fun for all ages! Very highly recommended!

    Spin the Wheelman

One of my very favorite PlayStation games, in Driver you are the getaway driver for a criminal network that specialises in theft, murder and deception.
You'll drive through real cities like Miami, San Francisco, New York & Los Angeles doing missions in an unfolding storyline. Or you can set it to Free Style and just go out bang 'em up, with realistic simulated damage. But watch out: the cops are on patrol too!

Fun to just drive fast, run from cops and crash.

It's an older title, and I lost my original copy. Since I have an affinity for older/classic/vintage systems (which PS1 now qualifies as), I still occasionally buy items and games for these older systems. Driver is a fun game to blow off steam with. Drive around cities trying to avoid the traffic and cops. When the cops' lights come on a direct pursuit follows - which is exciting. Seeing how long you can last can make for some pretty good times, especially if you take turns with friends and laugh at each others' demise. Overall, it's a good game.

    Driver

I used to play this game when I had the very first model of Playstation and I liked the fact that you have various (up to 40) missions that involve racing around town. You don't have to worry about trying to shot anyone or the cops shooting at you. This is personally the best quality of the game. And the other fact of it is that you drive various kinds of cars to do these missions. The reason why I decided to buy it is one, i've been looking for this game for 4 1/2 years now and although the graphics ain't all that great.....to me this is an awesome game. Thumbs up the whole way.
