Movie synopsis

Charles Stone III's crowd-pleasing drama spotlights the previously unheralded world of university marching bands--more specifically, the cutthroat world that energizes Southern black campuses. Devon Miles (Nick Cannon) is a Harlem teenager who receives a full scholarship to attend Atlanta A&T University based on his excellent percussion talents. However, making the transition from hip-hop street drumming to the drumline of the school's legendary marching band is more challenging than Miles expected. For one, the band director, Dr. Lee (Orlando Jones), is determined to reclaim the national championship using old-school tactics, even though his traditional beliefs appear to be leaving A&T in the dust. And then there is Sean (Leonard Roberts), the current drum leader, who is threatened by Devon's skills and frustrated by his fierce individuality. These antagonistic forces, as well as the addition of a cheerleading love interest (Zoe Saldana), combine to test Devon's previously unshakeable confidence. As the season builds toward the BET Big Southern Classic and a showdown with rival Morris Brown University, Devon must swallow his pride and learn to be a team player if he wants his band to win the championship. DRUMLINE proves that any subject can make for an invigorating work of entertainment, if handled properly.

I saw this movie playing in a Walmart and they didn't have anymore left. Of course I knew I could find it on ebay! I am so pleased to have this movie. It is an exciting and motivational movie. It is geared toward "family viewing" and has a good moral outlook. It is about a young boy who graduates from high school with an opportunity to do what he loves best, play his drums in a college band. The story line is interesting and the band competition is thrilling! If you like bands, especially drums, you will love watching this movie! This movie would be great for teenagers and adults.

Drumline (Extended Edition)

I like this movie because the Atlanta A&T band was actually Southwest DeKalb's High School Marching Panthers, which is my current school. All you have to do is listen to the commentary. But besides that, the movie was put together wery good. The only thing that I didn't like about the movie is that not enough footage was put on tv to actually show the band playing. A lot of the footage was chopped up in pieces with only certain pieces used. I decided to buy the extended version because it contained much more footage than the original version.

If you have ever been a member of a high school or college band this is a must see movie. It rekindles all the memories of camaradarie and competition you experienced in school. It also highlights some fantastic percussion. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT. I bought it for my son who was also a band member in school.
