    Publisher's Note
Cast ashore in the American Colonies, Claire and Jamie Fraser are faced with a bleak choice: return to a Scotland fallen into famine and poverty, or seize the risky chance of a new life in a New World--shadowed by Claire's knowledge of the coming revolution. Reissue.

Scottish soldier Jamie Fraser and his wife, Claire Randall--a twentieth century doctor who has traveled two centuries back in time--find themselves in South Carolina on the eve of the American Revolution, where they must fight to save a young girl

    The magnificent saga continues....

It began in Scotland, at an ancient stone circle. There, a doorway, open to a select few, leads into the past—or the grave. Claire Randall survived the extraordinary passage, not once but twice. Her first trip swept her into the arms of Jamie Fraser, an eighteenth-century Scot whose love for her became legend—a tale of tragic passion that ended with her return to the present to bear his child. Her second journey, two decades later, brought them together again in frontier America. But Claire had left someone behind in the twentieth century. Their daughter, Brianna....

Now Brianna has made a disturbing discovery that sends her to the stone circle and a terrifying leap into the unknown. In search of her mother and the father she has never met, she is risking her own future to try to change history...and to save their lives. But as Brianna plunges into an uncharted wilderness, a heartbreaking encounter may strand her forever in the past...or root her in the place she should be, where her heart and soul belong....

Time-transcending soulmates Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall return in this novel of romance and adventure. Jamie and Claire have landed on the shores of Charleston, South Carolina, in the year 1767--the eve of the American Revolution. In search of a new life far removed from the perils of war, they join a community of exiled Scottish Highlanders. When Jamie's daughter Brianna crosses into the past in search of the father she has never known, Jamie realizes that war spares no one--and that love is the only thing worth fighting for.

    Industry Reviews
The incredible Outlander saga continues. Brianna Fraser Randall is safe in the 20th century and Jamie Fraser and his beloved Claire make their way through the American wilderness to find a home and peace. It is time to begin a new life where war, hatred and pain cannot reach them. It is not only human beings, both English and Native American, who pose danger. Other threats come from animals, illness (a measles epidemic), and the seemingly indelible need for man to find a war when there is none. Yet another danger awaits when Brianna, pledged to marry Roger MacKenzie, decides she must follow in her mother's footsteps and walk through the stones to save her parents' lives. As Brianna, followed by Roger, arrives in the colonies in 1770, a door to the past is opened and the ancient ghosts seem to engulf them all. It is Jamie who learns that his love for his family comes before all else and that a warrior cannot escape war if he is to save the ones he loves. If, like me, you've been waiting with baited breath for this fourth volume in the series, you'll be thrilled to immerse yourself in the adventures of characters you have come to love. DRUMS OF AUTUMN is a book to read with relish.

Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon

    Created: 01/12/09
I love the series of books by Diana Gabaldon and this one is no exception. The book was in good shape and shipped quickly so that I could get right to reading it. The books are romance, time travel and historical all in one. I love to follow the lives and adventures of the characters including their troubles. They take you on travels around the world in the far past and in the more recent past. They show the troubles in families haven't changed all that much over the generations. Family is a most important factor no matter what century you live and love in.

    Highly recommended historical fiction....

    Created: 07/04/06
I can not rave enough on this book and the entire series. The characters are so real to me now I expect them to walk in the room. This is a time travel book and is full of historical facts, events from 18th century Scotland. Gabaldon is very acurate of Scottish life in this time period. This story leaves scotland and enters 18th century America. Same characters. A romantic story full of love, hate, war, highland violence and intrugue. Language is moderate. Some sex, but scenes are not overly offensive. Characters are bright and vivid. Very LONG books, but they did end too soon! I Recommend all the Outlander books by this author.

Another Great book from one of the very best Authors.

    Created: 04/02/11
There are two problems with this book series (1) Ms Gabaldon says it takes three years to get the next one written and (2) the friends I loan them to do not return them. So I've purchased another set of "Outlander" book series. Truly one of the greatest adventure, historical, romance and love, intrigue and war stories ever written. What a great story... these books and this author are worth the wait. Larry, Dover, DE

I read Outlander when it was first published and loved it, so I was extremely pleased to be able to continue the story of Jamie and Claire. I decided I must have the whole set because they are the kind of books you can read again and again. I love the romance that still exists between Jamie and Claire that literally transcends time. Each book in the series gets better and when you reach the end of them, you are ready to begin again.

Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon

I chose the book because it is the fourth book in a series. This book as well as the others are filled with romance, adventure, and history. I find this book very captivating and hard to put down. The characters in the book may be fictional but at the same time they seem all to real. The only thing some may find hard about this book is that it is 10070 pages long.
