Dyson DC-07 Insane Ability To Suck
Created: 31/12/07
We have 4 kids, 5 cats and work from home. Obviously our carpets see a lot of wear. I also owned my own office/home cleaning/carpet cleaning business for about 10 years = a lot of vacuums.
We currently use a small Sanitaire commercial vac for everyday use and I am very happy with it. But recently my better half found a yellow Dyson DC-07 at a garage sale for $60. The woman had moved into a single floor house and did not need this one. She had the receipt showing reconditioning, new filter, etc. Knowing I would never pay more than $200 for any vac, my better half brought this home as a surprise. I was so excited I about knocked him over.
I quickly used my Sanitaire and vacuumed a 5x5 foot area in the living room over our one year old tan carpeting. All looked good and I was happy...
Then I went over the same area with the DC-07...and the baglass canister was half full of cat hair and dust. No, get out. I am serious.
I was so shocked that I immediately went over the same spot again. Same thing. I did it again. Same thing. Fourth time's a charm, same thing. It got to where we were wondering where the Dyson had the hair hidden in the unit to make it look so impressive.:)
My mom came over the next day and I was quick to be the DC-07 sales lady. I went over the same area with the Sanitaire. Then the DC-07. Same thing. Again, Same thing. My mom thought I was tricking her in some way. Each time that canister was just about half full of pet hair.
I still have a hard time believing it. It isn't like the Sanitaire doesn't do a good job, I love the Sanitaire and I go through vacuum bags, showing it works, but the Dyson gets deep down stuff no one can see.
Now, we are also 8 year powersellers on another ID. I have NEVER had a pet hair complaint, EVER. People are surprised when we say we have 5 cats. It is not obvious...so...how in the world this vac can suck up layer upon layer of invisible smashed in pet hair and normal air dust is simply beyond me.
I have had the Dyson for about 6 months and I am still shocked.
Pros
The hose is very long and I can just do about the whole set of stairs, works great on hard floors too. I am equally impressed with its edge cleaning ability. It is much easier to empty than other bagless I have used.
Cons
This Dyson will overheat and turn itself off after about 20 minutes of use. I found out later this was common. It is a quirk, but compared to its suction, so what. It will turn back on after about 10 minutes.
The back little plastic hose by the foot pedal gets in the way and pops off...again a quirk, but doesn't really effect anything much.
The unit is BIG. If you have furniture to get under, this will not get under things. I have to move the couch, coffee table, etc to do the vacuuming with it. Although it is easy to handle for a large vac.
I still use my Sanitaire more often due to it being able to get under things but the Dyson is wonderful for that biweekly extra push.
The woman we bought it from also had the hose replaced. Evidently due to its design the hose can puncture fairly easily if not handled correctly.
I am not impressed with the type of plastics used, they seem a little low end to me considering the price.
All in all, when I can perform magic and pull out stuff I could not see, those quirks are worth living with. Those reasons are why I give it a *good* instead of an *excellent*.
While I would still never pay $500 for any vacuum...it is definitely worth a $300 deal on ebay.

Money well spent.

Of all the expensive things I have purchased, my Dyson is one thing I can continually look back on and think, "I do NOT regret spending $500 on that." Other things, I could take or leave. The Dyson has proved truly essential.
Before my Dyson, I had a cheap $60 leading brand vacuum. I have to vacuum twice weekly to keep up with my cats and everyday messes. It didn't take too many "burning rubber" incidents to realize this leading brand vacuum I was using was a hazard. It barely worked, it was overheating, and it had a horrible bag system.
I had seen the Dyson advertising and knew I wanted one - so on a whim I went to my local Target and grabbed the best unit they had - the DC07 Animal.
It is a pleasure to use - despite its heavy lift weight it pushes very smoothly as advertised. It picks up like you wouldn't believe and the tools are excellent. The stretch hose is priceless. The 35 foot cord lets me clean my whole place from one central outlet! With its cool appearance the Dyson is something I'll proudly leave out in the open - unlike any other vacuum I've seen.
I've owned my Dyson for about two years and it works like the day I bought it. The great thing about this vacuum is how durable it is. I find myself feeling guilty about not washing out the filter or cleaning out the roller for months - but the vacuum continues to operate just fine. My old vacuum wouldn't make it to the second cleaning of the week. I end up giving my Dyson a good cleaning two-three times a year.
I recently helped someone clean a new apartment and had to use a different vacuum. Since it was a decent, working vacuum, I hadn't expected it to be such a horrible experience. It was then when I realized how exceptional the Dyson's features really are. That vacuum was big and clunky and kept falling over on my feet while I was using the pathetic hose. It came unplugged every 15 feet, and it was hard to move.
All in all, when it comes to vacuums you most certainly get what you pay for. If you have pets, children, or just vacuum regularly there is no reason to settle for anything less than a Dyson. If you're hesitant about the price - realize that it'll make cleaning a joy and you'll have it for years. Definitely worth every penny.

Dyson Vacuum
Created: 09/07/08
I work long hours and have tried all manner of home aids to keep my house clean in the minimum amount of time, simply because I (like so many people) am tired at the end of my day. I had heard about Dyson vacuum cleaners on television advertisements but did not know anyone who owned one so that I could see it for myself. I did some research online and bid on what I considered to be the top of the line, the Dyson DC-O7 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum. I won it at a cost less than half of what I found as the lowest retail prices. The DC-07 is amazing: picks up everything in its path, without having to go over and over an area; has no bags or belts or other parts that require regular replacement (and which of course the shop where you bought the vacuum no longer carries!!); cleans to the HEPA standard (great for my partner, who is allergic and has asthma); and is not only light to use, easy to snap apart and wash, and also beautiful in bright teal. Comes with attachments for those pesky sofa corners, car interiors, and hard-to-reach cobwebby areas on top of the cabinets. Highly recommended.

Outstanding job on pet hair!!!
Created: 21/07/07
To clean pet hair from carpets took brushing, using vacuum hose from current upright and some 5 hours cleaning time for whole house.
I happened to be at Big Lots and noticed the vacuum cleaners; one brand, Electrolux, I know to be good but it used bags (which I thought would take many for the amount of pet hair I know to have). There was only one Dyson, the DC07 for a cost of 299.00 Electrolux was 160.00.
Before buying, I made clear understanding of the return policy. At $300.00, it had better be all that and more otherwise I would return it immediately. OMG! I could not believe the results. Just four passes with the Dyson, and the cannister was nearly full (disgusting I know, but cleaning the carpet had become such a laborious chore) and it had been several weeks since last cleaning. It took no time to vacuum the house and the results are absolutely unbelievable.
True, the machine is expensive (though I did get a good deal), but in this case you get what you pay for. Well worth the money spent. My house gets frequent vacuums and with a shedding dog and cat, the house stays fresh smelling with no signs of pet hair!!! I highly recommend this vacuum especially for pet owners.

Dyson DC-07 Vacuum
Created: 06/12/10
I had bought a Dyson DC-07 which my wife uses at her business. I loved the design and it's great cleaning power, so I bought a second for home use. In my opinion, the Dyson Vacuum Cleaners are the best on the market. I've used many other popular brands before buying the Dyson, and encountered the common problems, bags, loss of suction, frequent belt replacement, and spilling dirt on the floor while trying to empty the canisters and so on. The Dyson canisters empty by holding the canister above the waste basket and pulling a little switch which opens a trap door on the bottom of the canister and the dirt falls into the waste basket. No muss no fuss. There's many other great design features on the Dyson cleaners which are superior to other popular vacuums. They also aren't near as noisy as other vacuums. You'll love 'em!
