    Album Notes
The White Stripes: Jack White (vocals, guitar, piano); Meg White (drums).Additional personnel: Holly Golightly (vocals); Mort Crim (spoken vocals).Recorded at Toe-Rag Studios and BBC Maida Vale Studio, London, England in April 2002.ELEPHANT won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. The album was also nominated for Album Of The Year. "Seven Nation Army" won for Best Rock Song. The song was also nominated for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With VocalLo-fi in production and uncompromising in approach, ELEPHANT finds The White Stripes continuing to walk to the beat of their own pomo blues drummer in ignoring the enormous expectations heaped on the follow-up to 2001's smash WHITE BLOOD CELLS. Recorded in two weeks, this outing is packed with loose, soulful, and delightfully unpretentious songs that rage and howl. Jack and Meg White hit the ground running with the chugging shuffle "Seven Nations," with its infectious bass line and thudding cadence.Surprises abound, from the wall of Queen-like harmonies that infuse the choppy, psychedelia-tinged "There's No Room for You Here" or a reading of Burt Bacharach's "I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself" bursting at the seams with distorted guitar. Not surprisingly, the blues are never far from the equation, particularly on the heavy stomper "Ball and Biscuit" with its bursts of screaming guitar solos. Equally impressive is Jack White's slide guitar on the pleading "I Want to Be the Boy to Warm Your Mother's Heart" and six-string histrionics on the chugging "Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine" that shakes and shimmies with Stooges-like aggression.

    The White Stripes - Elephant

    Created: 04/02/08
This cd is awesome! In it, Jack White, expands upon his solid song-writing, with a good mix of rock, blues, and trippy jazz. Seven Nation Army has one of the best bass grooves and drum pounding beats ever. It was an instant classic. The song mix is smooth, flowing and diverse. Meg White's voice is incredible, and leaves you wanting more. She should definitley do a solo album. Even if you don't care for earlier releases from the White Stripes, you should definitely own this one! It's a perfect 10!

    one of their best recordings

I wanted to have this album when it came out 3 years ago but never got it. Then somehow I kept hearing "I just don't know what to do with myself" by Burt Bacharach done by the White Stripes in my mind and I had to search Ebay to find Elephant. I did find it and won it! Somehow the mail screwed up and it took 3 weeks but it is just an example of major talent at it's best--the mix of blues, soul, punk!

a unique sound and alternative to some of todays trash

ok so rock isnt what it used to be, get over it. there are many bands out there that are just filling empty space and not getting anywhere with their music. but when the real act arrives they move on out and make way. in this great album you will find a littile bit of everything and a whole lot of quality. this might be the best album that the white stripes have put out so far. if you say otherwise than you will face the seven nation army. happy listening

    Black Math

You either love or hate Elephant. I have yet to meet someone who was neutral on this album. The White Stripes seem to be one of those rare bands that stay true to themselves even if it puts a damper on commercial accessibility. Sure, there are a couple songs here that would appeal to the mainstream but there are also a couple tracks that make sure the album, as a whole, does not (Little Acorns, Well It's True That We Love One Another). As you probably guessed, I'm one of those who loves this CD. 5 Stars.

    Amazing cd, and good band

    Created: 26/01/11
Let's just say I love rock and roll, this and Skynyrd are probably my favorite band, and I love their music. So when I saw this I had to get it. I like Seven Nation Army, the best. It is a good cd and good songs are on it
