Movie synopsis

Will Ferrell makes yet another memorable splash on the big screen in Jon Favreau's sweet and hilarious Christmas fable. Ferrell is Buddy, an innocent figure who was raised as an elf in the North Pole by his adoptive father, Papa Elf (Bob Newhart). When Buddy discovers that he's actually a human being, he heads to New York City to reunite with his biological father. The trouble is that his dad, Walter (James Caan), is a publishing executive who doesn't have time for anything other than work. Buddy moves in with Walter and his family, and proceeds to teach them a lesson or two about what being a family really means. Meanwhile, he also falls head over heels in love with the incredibly cute department store clerk, Jovie (Zooey Deschanel). By the time Christmas Eve rolls around, the general lack of spirit in the air threatens to ground Santa for the big night. He must rely on Buddy's expertise and overall enthusiasm to ensure that Christmas will be saved once again. Favreau's film is family entertainment at its finest, featuring a performance by Ferrell that is at once innocent, tender, and laugh-out-loud funny. A stellar supporting cast--including Caan, Deschanel, Newhart, and Faizon Love--adds to the film's already overabundant charm.

A New Holiday Classic...

Created: 15/05/06
'Elf' starring Will Ferrell. Will was an orphan child

who stowed away on Santa's sleigh as a child and was adopted by one of

Santa's elves. After years of not fitting in with the other elfs, Papa

Elf (Bob Newhart) tells Will the truth: he's not an elf but a human.

Will sets out on a journey to New York City to find his father, who is a

grumpy executive at a publishing company (James Caan). Will Ferrell is

terrific as the silly elf, and this movie is chock full of big laughs And the humor isn't foul like that

found in something like "Scary Movie III", this is more like "School of

Rock". 'Elf' is a great movie for the whole family, yet not aimed

directly at children. For the last 15 minutes of the film, the laughs

abruptly disappear and are replaced by a strangely moving dose of Christmas

spirit. The ending feels like an entirely different movie. But no

matter, for good comedies that don't rely on potty humor are few and far

between these days. Will Ferrell has succeeded in his first major starring

role, and I hope that there are more good projects for him in the

future.

A great time. Don't hesitate to see this terrific film.

A Cutsey Film That's So Stupid It's Hilarious

Created: 24/09/06
For a lot of fans of Will Ferrell, this movie may be a little too childish or cheesy for them to watch. However, this movie really is hilarious because of how stupid it can be. Adults and children alike will enjoy the antics in this holiday film. It's not an adult oriented film, by any means. In fact, this movie is perfect for children...especially children who still believe in Santa Claus. This movie is able to make a comedy around a human who was raised by Santa's elves in the North Pole and then returns to society to find his real father. What ensues is nothing but gags centered around the human-elf trying to adapt to the real world and make his father accept him. The story is actual quite clever, the humor is clean, stupid and still a riot. Also, as I said, the way this movie plays out, it really is fun for children who still believe in Santa because it comes with the approach that Santa is real and it has little quips that answer some of children's questions. For example, the workshop shows the elves making modern toys...children always ask how Santa gets his hands on those modern toys. All in all this is a cute little movie that some Will Ferrell fans might dislike, but it's still hilarious and a great film to have around the holidays. I highly recommend this to Will Ferrell fans, people who love clean humored comedies and for this people with children.

Will Ferrell is Drop Dead Hilarious. MUST SEE

Created: 22/09/05
Will Ferrell, Will Ferrell and more Will Ferrell. And he’s wearing tights. It really doesn’t get much better than “Elf”.

Its not another Saturday Night Live movie – and don’t get me wrong, I like those! – like Night at the Roxbury or the Ladies Man. This is a movie that actually has a plot. Has real dialogue. And ha continuous laughs.

This is actually Will Ferrell’s first leading role and, along with Old School, the movie that cemented him as a comedic star and a $20,000,000 leading actor. Playing Buddy the human Elf, Will Ferrell finds himself lost in the bustling world that is New York City. Whether you are a child or an adult, the gem of the movie is Will Ferrell because he comes across likeably and awkwardly – playing the fish-out-of-water role quite perfectly. The lasting appeal of the movie is that the comedy is good-natured rather than raunchy – making it appealing for all audiences.

Additionally, Elf has great replay value and the DVD is loaded with features and extras. Great lines include:

Emily: You like sugar, huh?
Buddy: Is there sugar in syrup?
Emily: Yes.
Buddy: Then YES!

Buddy: I passed through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, through the sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and then I walked through the Lincoln Tunnel.

Buddy: First we'll make snow angels for a two hours, then we'll go ice skating, then we'll eat a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookiedough as fast as we can, and then we'll snuggle.

A Christmas movie for the young and young at heart.

Created: 16/10/06
Buddy the Elf goes out on a journey looking for his natural father. However poor Buddy has lived in the innocence of the North Pole his whole life and now must face the cruelties of the real world.
Buddy finds his father and just wants to be a part of his family.

Will Ferrell must be a kid at heart to have pulled this role off as well as he did.
I would't be surprised at all if I were to go Downtown New York City and find Buddy(Will Ferrell) wandering around the streets picking chewed up old bubblegum off of street poles.
Could James Caan have been any crankier?
This is a great family film that brings the Christmas spirit home. My husband and I both thoroughly enjoy this movie as much as the kids do.
Will make a great addition to your Christmas DVD collection.
