Brush up on your "Elizabethan"!
Created: 29/10/06
If you don't know much about the Elizabethan period, this movie would serve as a good intro. The producers obviously put forth a great effort in relating many accurate details about Queen Elizabeth's life. Glenda Jackson's performance is absolutely OUTSTANDING. Our family really enjoyed this series, and I felt it was a great history lesson for my daughters. Just today, we heard our 9-year old daughter, making her doll to say, "How dare you say I'm not married! I am married to my country!" (quoting Elizabeth)
One word of caution, if you are showing this to young children, there are two scenes you may consider censoring. One is during the period when Elizabeth is close to marrying the Duke of France. When you see him on his ship with a woman in his bed, beware that she will soon be shown fully unclothed. Be careful anytime the Duke is shown in bed, as he often makes lewd/sexual remarks, etc. Also, when Mary Queen of Scots is executed, they DO show her headless body.
All in all, I would highly recommend this movie. You will learn so much, and gain insight into what she must have been like. In addition to the excellent series, a bonus A&E documentary of Elizabeth's life is included, and well worth watching.

This Movie Kept me Interested thoughout the movie. Interesting to learn the Royal Family Life and Dirty Laundry. At the end of the Movie, as Elizabeth was dieing, when they asked her if she wished King James of Scottland to assume the throne, she shakes her head yes, then no, then yes again. Takes awhile to watch to the end, so have the Popcorn and cokes made and ready to view a GOOD Movie for several Hours!!

Glenda Jackson is superb as Elizabeth. This was well worth the wait to be able to
own this marvelous series that captures the viewer's imagination of England's greatest monarch. The costumes and pageantry are spectacular. The intrigue and political plotting are quite interesting.
