A must for those embarking on a career in Jewllery Maki
Created: 14/10/06
Prior to my wife's intention to return to college as a mature student, I purchased several books for her on 'Silversmithing', and it is Jinks McGrath's book that she values most highly. In fact her lecturer reccomended it to all the students on the Jewllery Making & Design course. It is an invaluable guide to the beginner with its easy to follow instructions and information. It is well laid out with precise information and an easy reference source to fall back on.
This book is well written and it's a very picturesque encyclopedia. Not too technical but still very informative with the author's step by step format. Those of you who are pursuing Jewlery as a hobby or a career will want to add this book to your library.
You won't be disappointed.

The Encyclopedia of Jewelry-Making Techniques

This is a wonderful book for those who think outside the box. This book covers what the other books only hint at. Each technique is described in a manner to educate and does not confuse the reader. The knowledge base of Jinks McGrath is extensive. I was left with a desire to run right out to my local craft store instead of the local bead store. I am going to make my own beads to be used in my own designs. I feel confident that my designs will work because this book is going to walk me through each element of the design. I am now searching for other books written by Jinks. I did not notice any cons, only pros. The pictures and illustrations were done masterfully. I was a little hesitant to order a book from the early 1990's, but this book will never be out of style. Just like having to learn your ABC's prior to being able to read; you need to learn the basic creating techniques before designing and creating your own jewelry masterpieces. Each of the 40 techniques are not only described, but a sample design is provided as well. This book is a keeper. Do yourself a favor and add it to your craft library.

Wonderful and beautiful book with tons of full color photographs of real serious craftsman techniques! 97 out of 100 people won't probably get this into these various detailed jewelry making techniques. This book shows you various skills a dedicated, serious jewelry maker needs. Very informative and a little daunting for a beginner.
