Encyclpeida of Marks
Created: 04/02/07
I purchased this book as a gift for a relative who collects. One of the main selling points for me was the comprehensive nature of the work. This volume has a wealth of information that will be of good use to beginners through expert collectors in identifying items. It ranks up there with some of the best reference works on marks that I have seen and it has both European and American wares- recommended for all who have interest in stoneware, transfer ware, flow blue etc.

Knowledge Is Power

As a collector of English Transferware, I found the vast information in this book to be a tremendous source of reference. The Kowalsky's have not only shown typical back marks, but have created a cross reference guide and timeline for each maker. In addition, an alphabetical list of patterns and other distinguishing features make this a must have book for the collector or dealer.
The main focus does seem to be on the English works, however there are sections of American & European companies as well. This book certainly makes one a more discriminating buyer, as not all is what it seems.
