Movie synopsis

Jordan's adaptation of Greene's famous novel, set in a moody 1946 London, tells the tale of novelist Maurice Bendrix (Fiennes). After a random meeting with the husband of his ex-lover Sarah (Moore), Bendrix is once again drawn into her web, trying to discover for himself the reason she aborted their relationship two years before. The reintroduction of Maurice into Sarah's life fills her with confusion, forcing her to come to terms with her past decision, and challenging her to objectively deal with her deteriorating health. Jordan (THE CRYING GAME) definitely turns up the steam for this one.

A Story About Twists and Turns in Life

Created: 24/04/10
In this 1999 Academy Award nominated movie that takes place in WW2 Britain, Sarah Miles (Julianne Moore) is having an affair with Maurice Bendrix (Ralph Fiennes). It is an affair that begins at a cocktail party at her home where the famous writer meets her. And it ends right after a German bomb devastates their love nest while they are sleeping together.

The movie covers it all. We see the cuckolded husband Henry Miles (Stephen Rea). a government employee, who knows that he is an inadequate husband and who knows that his wife is having an affair. We mainly see the insecurity of Maurice, who hires a private detective because he just knows that Sarah is not even faithful to him. And we see the agnostic Sarah who suddenly has an awakening to the Catholic religion that she was born into but never practiced.

This movie is a character study and is based on a novel of the same name by Graham Greene. We see into the hearts of all of these people and the way that their story weaves itself together is a real tear jerker. You will not believe how it all works out.

This is a movie that seems boring at first, but just hang on. It will be worth the wait. And to prove its acclaim, it was nominated for 2 Academy Awards: Best Actress (Julianne Moore) and Best Cinematography. It was also nominated for 4 Golden Globes including Best Motion Picture Drama.

The music is very British and fits the timeperiod and scenery. This movie is very good, but you must give it the time to play itself out.

my thoughts on this movie..

Created: 22/03/10
I absolutely LOVED this movie..if ur anything like me,, movies like this, premonition and the lakehouse, are hard to catch on to at first, but became relatively easy to understand as they move forward. I thought the story line was well though out and acted , julianne moore and ralph fiennes did an astonishing preformance.. i actually cried at the end, thats how good it was!! I decided to buy it simply for the fact that A) ralph fiennes is a favourite of myne and B) im a sucker for romantic movies!! i STRONGLY reccommend this movie, when u are at home alone, just wanting to watch something. i give it 5 stars!!

THE END OF THE AFFAIR

Created: 04/06/07
I BOUGHT THIS ONE BECAUSE I LIKED THE ACTORS.

THERE ARE THREE THINGS THAT FOR ME MAKE A CLEAR AND ACCURATE PICTURE OF THE SUCCESS OF THE FILM....

TWO GOOD AND ONE IS BAD.

THE GOOD ONES ARE WHETHER YOU CAN REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS ALL ABOUT A FEW WEEKS AFTER WATCHING IT AND IF MY WIFE LIKED IT.

THE BAD ONE IS YOU CAN REMEMBER ANYTHING YOU DISLIKED ABOUT IT A FEW WEEKS AFTER WATCHING IT.

MY WIFE LIKED IT AND I REMEMBER A LOT OF THE MOVIE WHICH IS GOOD AND NOTHING I DISLIKED ABOUT IT EXCEPT THAT THERE WAS NO HAPPY ENDING.

THIS MOVIE WILL GO INTO MY WATCH IT AGAIN DRAWER AS A REMINDER THAT POLITICS USUALLY PREVAIL OVER PASSION.

Strange love

I really enjoyed this movie, it was touching. Only in a movie would the story of this type of love affair go on. The love that was shared between these 3 people was extraordinary, forgiving, and possibly everlasting. You should check it out.
