    Publisher's Note
Orson Scott Card brings us back to the very beginning of his brilliant Ender Quartet, with a novel that allows us to reenter that world anew.

With all the power of his original creation, Card has created a parallel volume to Ender's Game, a book that expands and compliments the first, enhancing its power, illuminating its events and its powerful conclusion.

The human race is at War with the "Buggers", an insect-like alien race. The first battles went badly, and now as Earth prepares to defend itself against the imminent threat of total destruction at the hands of an inscrutable alien enemy, all focus is on the development and training of military geniuses who can fight such a war, and win.

The long distances of interstellar space have given hope to the defenders of Earth--they have time to train these future commanders up from childhood, forging then into an irresisible force in the high orbital facility called the Battle School.

Andrew "Ender" Wiggin was not the only child in the Battle School; he was just the best of the best. In this new book, card tells the story of another of those precocious generals, the one they called Bean--the one who became Ender's right hand, part of his team, in the final battle against the Buggers.

Bean's past was a battle just to survive. He first appeared on the streets of Rotterdam, a tiny child with a mind leagues beyond anyone else's. He knew he could not survive through strength; he used his tactical genius to gain acceptance into a children's gang, and then to help make that gang a template for success for all the others. He civilized them, and lived to grow older.

Bean's desperate struggle to live, and his success, brought him to the attention of the Battle School's recruiters, those people scouring the planet for leaders, tacticians, and generals to save Earth from the threat of alien invasion. Bean was sent into orbit, to the Battle School. And there he met Ender....

A companion volume to the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning novel Ender's Game follows the life of Ender Wiggin's comrade Bean, from his escape from the mean streets of Rotterdam, to his student days at the Battle School, and to his role as Ender's right hand ally, strategist, and friend in the epic struggle to save Earth from alien invaders. Reprint.

    Industry Reviews
"[A] curious if quite skillful exercise in point of view that adds nothing of real significance to the Ender saga, that rolls the saga back to its starting point,...but that is very likely to regain for Card that substantial young-adult audience (measured not entirely by the actual age of the readers) whose attention began to drift once the narrative moved beyond the primal world of smart kids and bullies. ENDER'S SHADOW brings that world right back, and smart kids are doing to eat it up."

Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card

    Created: 17/11/08
Ender's Shadow is the First book in the Shadow series. This first book is our introduction to the Main Character "Bean", and it unfolds the story of his life as it lies parallel to Ender Wiggin's in the book Ender's Game. Bean's story is unlike any other in the Ender/Shadow series. He is a Very different character from Ender, but you will love him all the same. The immense amount of intelligence, courage, personality, and strength wrapped around Bean's character takes him from the pages of the book and makes him real. The reader will want to be part of Bean's life, and his world. If there were ever a character in Sci-Fi history that could come close to the love we have for Ender, it would be Bean. What amazed me most about this book and all of the Shadow Series, is how the characters become you. You hurt when they hurt, you laugh when they laugh. You always want to look out for them, help them, and destroy their enemies. It's almost like you can't help but get emotionally involved in their lives. The Story line keeps you hooked till the very last word. I would suggest having the next book ready at hand, because you will want to go strait from one to the next.

This is the first of a parallel series to Ender's Game. I'd reccomend that you read Ender's Game first, but it's still an amazing book by itself. If you thought Ender was awesome, wait till you get to know Bean.
All in all, great book. Orson Scott Card is amazing at digging into how people think and using it to propel his storylines.

Great book, reads lightning fast, and provides great insight into the Battle School. Good to get Card back on track after Children of the Mind.

Orson Scott Card - need I say more?

If you're looking at this book, you probably know what it's about, so really all you need to know is that its an excellent alter-story to the Ender's Game series. Both have multiple books, all of which show how the two main characters lived after the Third Bugger Invasion.
